San José City College offers a Project Management Certificate, which is aligned with the industry-offered Google Project Management Professional Certificate. Students who complete this certificate will be exposed to and become proficient in the field of project management and prepare them for Project Management Institute Certifications like the globally-recognized Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).  

A "C" grade or better is required in all degree and certificate major and major elective courses. A ‘P’ (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a “pass/no pass” basis.

The Certificate of Achievement in Motion Graphic Design Program pairs Graphic Design techniques with visual storytelling and animation to provide students with comprehensive workforce-related skills in the Media Art industry. Motion Graphic Design provides high demand skills in corporate branding, social media, user experience, marketing, television, broadcasting and the internet.  

Students enrolled in this program will learn computer-based motion graphics for video production, creating multimedia projects utilizing design principles, typography, animation principles, storytelling and composition guidelines, for advertising, tech and entertainment industries. At the completion of this program, students will have a well-rounded professional Motion Graphic Design portfolio and have the necessary skill sets for workforce requirements.

In 2013, 22% of addiction treatment admission in Santa Clara County were identified as co-occurring. While co-occurring disorders are certainly not new in addiction treatment, treatment providers are reporting that the level of acuity of client mental health symptoms has risen in Santa Clara County. San Jose City College Integrated Behavioral Health Certificate is patterned after the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) and SAMHSA best practices models.

The Integrated Behavioral Health Certificate is a program designed to support ongoing effectiveness and professional development for certified and licensed clinicians currently working with the co-occurring client. The Integrated Behavioral Health Certificate is designed based on SAMHSA/CSAT best practice approaches to integrated treatment and is an opportunity for clinicians to gain competency and increased skill in working with these complicated clients. The merger of mental health services and addiction services in Santa Clara County to a Behavioral Health Services model requires increased cross-training and clinical capacity to best meet both the spirit and intent of current best-practice approaches to Integrated Behavioral Health.

The following courses are strongly recommended to be completed prior to pursuing the Integrated Behavioral Health Certificate: ADS-073 Case Management, ADS-075A Counseling Theories and Skills, PSYCH-010 General Psychology, and PSYCH-031 Biological Psychology.

San José City College offers a Certificate of Achievement in Health Sciences. This certificate will provide students with a strong foundation in human anatomy, human physiology, and microbiology. The courses in this certificate are the common prerequisites for community college and university health occupations majors including nursing, respiratory therapy, radiological science, physical therapy, occupational health, dental assistant, and dental hygiene.

The Chicano Studies Certificate of Achievement program prepares students to analyze Chicano communities' social relations of power and histories, assess community-formation strategies for Chicanos and utilize social sciences, humanities, community organizing resources, and creative social change to promote social justice and equity, with a particular focus on Chicanos. Successful completion of the program enables students to evaluate and influence institutional and social contexts, using an intersectional approach to race, gender, class, and sexuality. This certificate enhances leadership capacity for students with professional aspirations, enabling them to work with various Chicano communities in various fields such as community organizing, nonprofit organizations, public policy, public service, or business.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

The Fundamentals of Wood Technology Certificate of Achievement offers instruction in woodworking for career-oriented students, and includes access to one of the best-equipped shops in Northern California. Employment-oriented students are assisted in finding work making custom furniture, kitchen cabinets, commercial fixtures, architectural millwork, and a wide variety of other wood products. Instruction is highly individualized and is designed to allow flexibility in learning speed, design experimentation, and areas of emphasis. The two primary goals of all classes are to make each student a safe machine and/or tool user, and to provide the student with the problem-solving tools that relate to four-dimensional wood-based construction.

Upon completion of this program a student will be able to:

1. Skills: Students will develop a foundation of core skills necessary to effectively use hand tools, operate power tools, create design and layout for projects, and work with software and CNC equipment that is current for the cabinet and furniture-making trade.

Materials and Practices: Students will identify, analyze, and apply materials of the trade to the appropriate production parameters, creating efficient work flows for shop projects with optimal material use. Students will analyze production processes and apply required techniques in order to meet production standards.

Communication and Calculate Students will interpret, analyze, perform mathematical calculations and create architectural drawings and other shop documents used in the contemporary woodworking trade and communicate essential information from these documents to coworkers and clients. Students will use woodworking nonmenclature to communicate effectively in the woodworking field.

4. Safety Students will evaluate, set up and operate woodworking machinery and use hand tools according to safe operational practices and understand the implications of materials as they relate to worker and customer safety and environmental impacts.

The African American Studies Certificate of Achievement program prepares students to analyze African American communities' social relations of power and histories, assess community-formation strategies for African Americans, and apply social sciences, humanities, community organizing resources, and creative social change to promote social justice and equity with a particular focus on African American communities. Successful completion of the program enables students to evaluate and influence institutional and social contexts using an intersectional approach to race, gender, class, and sexuality. Students will learn modern Computer Numerical Control (CNC) based cabinet making systems, advanced construction problems and techniques, and application of hardware and finishings. Employment-oriented students are assisted in finding work making custom furniture, kitchen cabinets, commercial fixtures, architectural millwork, and a wide variety of other wood products.
