The Automotive Technology Certificate allows the student flexibility to study in all areas of automotive repair or to focus on a series of courses in a particular area of repair. It incorporates electives for students to acquire skills in other Career Technical Education areas that are often required in the automotive career path. The Automotive Technology Certificate Program is designed to prepare students for employment in the automotive industry as automotive technicians, apprentice mechanics, automotive parts distributor or salesperson, or specialists in one of the many areas in, or jobs related to, the automotive industry. This certificate requires a total of 33.5-41.5 units. A grade of C or better is required for each course taken. At least half the units toward the certificate must be taken at Fullerton College.

🗸 Demonstrate safe work habits when using tools and equipment to repair automotive systems and comply with all local, state, federal, and international regulations regarding hazardous waste handling, disposal, and record keeping.

🗸 Evaluate vehicle malfunctions, demonstrate diagnostic procedures, interpret diagnostic test results, recommend repair or corrective action, and proficiently perform vehicle repairs following vehicle manufacturers' specifications.

🗸 Compose a written vehicle repair estimate including parts and labor, collaborate with other staff members to inform the customer, and summarize the repairs performed on a vehicle repair order using the industry standard.

🗸  Plan or participate in automotive technology update training and certification testing to stay current with emerging automotive repair skills and industry needs.

The Certificate of Proficiency in Supervision is designed to prepare students for various management positions in business, government, and public organizations; to aid existing managers in upgrading their skills; and to assist employees for promotion to management/supervision positions.

Have the background to become a first-level supervisor.

The Certificate of Competency in Student Leadership introduces applied leadership and self-development skills. Information will be presented in academic format, and students will be required to demonstrate mastery through participation in student-centered, hands-on activities.

The Automotive Service Advisor Certificate (formerly Automotive Service Advisor Skills Certificate) is designed to provide the student with entry level employment skills needed in the area of automotive service advising, service consulting, customer greeting, and repair order dispatching. A student can seek employment in new car dealerships, specialty repair shops, and franchise automotive repair facilities. The course work will develop a student’s understanding of the major automotive systems and their ability to communicate malfunctions to a customer. The proper calculations of repair costs and the completion of industry recognized repair orders will also be covered in the course work. This certificate requires a total of 18.5-25.5 units. A grade of C or better is required in each course taken.

The Certificate of Achievement in Special Education Paraprofessional will prepare the student for an entry-level position requiring practical skills and knowledge to work with persons with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. This certificate program also supports the requirements of federal legislation that all paraprofessionals/instructional assistants/aides in Title schools be “highly qualified.” In addition, the courses introduce the student to career opportunities in special education or other disability-related fields and/or provide major preparation for transfer to four-year institutions to continue a course of study in special education.

Demonstrate analysis and knowledge of the personal and team roles and responsibilities of the Special Education Paraeducator in the public school which includes diagnosis and implementation strategies for students with special needs.

The Certificate of Completion in Shelter Dog Training provides training and education in dog handling for students while preparing dogs from the animal shelter for placement in a family home. Students will demonstrate mastery of canine handling and training skills. Prepares students for jobs in settings such as kennels, animal shelters, zoos, circuses, and aquariums.

The Certificate of Completion in Secondary Education/GED Preparation prepares students for the reading, writing, and math skills necessary for the achievement of the official GED Certificate.

The Automotive Manual Drive Train Certificate is designed to provide the student with entry level employment skills needed in the area of automotive service and repair of manual transmissions, manual transaxles, clutch systems, drivelines, and differentials. A student can seek employment in new car dealerships, specialty repair shops, and franchise automotive repair facilities. This certificate requires a total of 20 units. A grade of C or better is required in each course taken.

🗸 Perform a wide array of preventative maintenance, service, and repair procedures related to manual transmissions, manual transaxles, clutch systems, drivelines, and differentials.

The Certificate of Competency in Secondary Education is designed to offer students instruction ranging from the basic skill level to the high school level with the purpose of preparing them to earn a high school diploma and for other higher educational or job opportunities. Each high school course is seventy-two (72) hours unless otherwise noted.

The Certificate of Completion in Receptionist/Information Clerk is designed to give students the skills for entry-level receptionist or information clerk positions. Clerical duties include greeting the public, answering phones, making appointments, and word processing.
