The courses in Basic Skills create a foundation for subsequent courses required for an AA, AS degree or CTE program. Continuing study in math will prepare students for a wide range of careers in technology, the health field, education, research, engineering and business.

The terms “Master” and “Specialist” imply a very broad knowledge in several of the construction trades and management disciplines. Students who complete this program will have their names displayed on a perpetual “Award of Excellence” listing in the Construction Department.

✓ Demonstrate the knowledge, skills and experience to identify, assess, and participate in many entry-level construction trades.

✓ Be prepared to work in the construction field in positions including, but not limited to work areas such as inspection, management, and as hands-on skilled tradespeople.

The Administrative Assistant Certificate program prepares individuals for employment in key staff positions or enhances existing skills of office assistants, office managers, and other professionals. Students will learn a broad range of computer competencies targeting a diverse and multicultural workforce. Students who pursue a career as an Administrative Assistant will use their job skills in technical professional business environments.

This program meets a substantial portion of the 24-unit accounting course requirement to take the California CPA exam. It is intended primarily for students possessing a bachelor’s degree or foreign university equivalent. In addition, completion of this degree is helpful in securing entry-level accounting positions in business and industry such as Accounts Payable Clerk, Accounts Receivable Clerk, General Ledger Clerk, or Bookkeeper. The Marine Mammal Field Studies and Conservation certificate is designed to prepare students interested in gaining experiential learning in various fields of marine mammal research, public outreach, education and conservation. This introductory exposure will allow them to make important contacts and gain fundamental skills and theoretical knowledge in the field of marine mammalogy and conservation.

Program Outcomes

✓ Describe fundamentals of marine mammal ecology including evolution, adaptations to aquatic lifestyle, and threats to their environment.

✓ Identify regional diversity of marine mammals in the context of threats and conservation status.

✓ Demonstrate various research techniques used to study marine mammals including photographic identification, biopsy sampling, and other marine mammal tracking methods.

The Marine Conservation and Monitoring certificate is designed to provide students with experience utilizing a variety of different research equipment, field-based sampling techniques, and analytical tools that can be used to collect, analyze, and evaluate data. Particular attention is given to the collection of field data and how conclusions drawn from that data can be used to inform conservation-based policies.

✓ Demonstrate a basic understanding of data collection methods and analysis as well as the role that monitoring programs contribute to our understanding of marine characteristics and processes.

✓ Utilize scientific equipment and monitoring studies to illustrate the influence and interactions between the geologic, physical, chemical and biological processes and characteristics of the world ocean.

✓ Demonstrate field-based foundational research and monitoring skills in the marine environment using specialized data collection equipment. 

These selected courses are designed for students who desire to sharpen their managerial skills. Completion of all three courses will provide the basic skills necessary to succeed in any managerial position.

This certificate of proficiency is intended to help students who are interested in pursuing entrepreneurship to develop new ideas and recognize opportunities as a foundation for creating a new business.
 

This certificate includes courses that prepare students to discover and develop internal and external characteristics of entrepreneurial success, create a strategy for taking advantage of opportunity, and to take action by starting a business or work as self-employed individuals.

This Certificate of Proficiency is intended to help prepare students interested in pursuing entrepreneurship with the planning and presentation tools needed to develop and communicate a business idea, strategy, and analysis of business objectives.
