This program presents a concentrated course of study in the field of digital media arts and design. Concept development and the generation of a portfolio suitable for job applications or transfer to a degree program is a major focus in each of the core courses.

Courses emphasize the process and problem-solving in conjunction with visual design issues. DMAD graphic design courses provide broad-based entry-level training for a variety of graphic design industries. Students are introduced to a broad range of media, including branding, publications, posters, print advertisements, website graphics, billboards, and product packaging, as well as strategies and techniques required to incorporate these areas into print and online.

Program Outcomes

✓ Apply the principles of color, composition, hierarchy, and typography as they relate to the various design media utilizing industry-standard graphics software.

✓ Apply critical thinking and aesthetic judgment to demonstrate the ability to analyze, synthesize, and develop probable graphic design solutions.

✓ Develop an original, innovative and articulate body of graphic design work for a professional portfolio for the purpose of gaining employment and/or acceptance to an Art College or University.

The Accessory Design Occupational Skills Award prepares students with the skills necessary to become a successful designer of shoes, bags, millinery, jewelry, small leather goods, shawls, ties, pocket squares and other accessories. The curriculum provides students with instruction and practice in design skills, product development, technical skills, sourcing materials, and manufacturing the final goods. Students will experience designing a line from initial concept to final creation. Students have the option of taking a course to prepare for the Apparel Information Management System (AIMS) exam and will receive certification upon passing of exam.

After completion of the skills award, students will be eligible for a position in the following areas: assistant accessory designer, accessory designer, shoe designer, high performance shoe designer, milliner, handbag designer, small leather goods designer, technical designer for accessories, accessory product developer, sourcing and manufacturer of accessories.

This sequence of grammar review courses is designed for English language learners who want to improve their command of essential grammar structures. Specific grammar structures are targeted at each level. Students will be given the opportunity to practice using target structures in written, oral and listening activities in various contexts, including academic, work-related and community-based scenarios.

Program Outcome

✓ Students will increase their proficiency in targeted grammar structures, both at the sentence level and in longer writings.

✓ Students will increase their proficiency in using target grammar structures in speaking assignments. 

This certificate, issued through the Graduation Office, provides students with basic accounting and computer accounting coursework focusing on governmental accounting. Students are required to obtain a grade of “C” or better in all required courses at OCC.

Program Outcome

✓ Students will be able to demonstrate generally accepted accounting practices in the area of governmental accounting using various forms of technology.

The Marketing certificate programs are designed to train those individuals whose career paths involve the creative techniques of both oral and written sales presentations, advertising, and marketing. Courses emphasize the tools used by marketers, the environmental forces affecting the marketing process, sales communication skills, the promotion, marketing research, and advertising planning and strategy. All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.

✓ Function effectively in an entrepreneurial, managerial, or entry-level international business position using the skills, tools, and principles they have acquired.

✓ Effectively apply the international business principles they have learned to effectively facilitate international business transactions in a variety of settings.

The Pre-Physician Assistant certificate satisfies prerequisite coursework for most graduate-level programs in this field. The 19 unit certificate program offers students the opportunity to complete the required foundational sciences, social science, and statistics coursework. The certificate focuses on providing students who want to apply to a master’s degree program certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant for the professional credential, Physician Assistant (PA).

The 20 unit certificate program offers students the opportunity to complete the required foundational sciences, social science, and statistics coursework. The certificate focuses on providing students who want to apply to a graduate-level Physical Therapy program certified by the American Physical Therapy Association.

The Pre-Occupational Therapy certificate satisfies prerequisite coursework for most all graduate-level programs in this field. The 18-unit certificate program offers students the opportunity to complete the required sciences, social science, and statistics coursework required for entry. The certificate focuses on providing students who want to apply to an occupational therapy master’s degree program certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Students enrolling in this certificate program are either completing coursework in preparation or transfer with a long-term goal of Occupational Therapy graduate programs, or already hold a bachelor’s degree and need additional coursework for their applications.

The certificate program offers students the opportunity to complete science and lab courses which are required by most nursing and health-related degree programs.

This certificate focuses on providing  students who want to apply to a nursing or health degree program with core science courses that are prerequisites for nursing, kinesiology, physical therapy or another career.  This Pre-Health Science Certificate will prepare students to advance their career in the health care profession.

✓ Identify normal and abnormal physiological values.

topic and properly compile this material into a research paper.

This noncredit program will prepare students to succeed on the GED test. Courses in the program are GED Test Preparation classes and provide students with the reading, writing, science and math skills necessary to successfully pass the GED exam. Upon satisfactory completion of two-four courses with a final grade of acceptable completion for each course, students will earn a Certificate of Completion in GED Preparation.
