The Veteran Services Certificate Program is an undergraduate credit certificate program designed for students in Rehabilitation Services, Social Sciences and Health and Human Services, and any professionals interested in working with the veteran population such as:

- veterans who want to serve other veterans

- active-duty military personnel interested in a career serving veterans

- education and career advisers who work with veterans

- veterans’ service officers

- human resources professionals in organizations committed to hiring veterans

- law-enforcement personnel and other first responders

- students in rehabilitation services, health and human services, and social science

 

It prepares students with a specialty area that will increase their knowledge and skills unique to working with military veterans and their families. It requires a minimum of 18 units, selected in consultation with the Rehabilitation Services Program Coordinator. The program includes coursework in rehabilitation services and mental health counseling designed specifically for rehabilitation education.

Undergraduate Certificate in Transportation and Logistics

Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainability Marketing

The Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainability Marketing will provide the opportunity for students enrolled in all Cal State LA degree programs, as well as working professionals from the external community, to:

  1. broaden their understanding of mounting environmental and social issues that impact our local and global communities;
  2. transform the design, marketing, and consumption of products and services within an interdisciplinary framework of environmental and social sustainability;
  3. enhance their employment portfolio to appeal to the increasing number of public and private employers seeking college graduates with a deeper understanding of the human impact of environmental issues.

 

A total of 18 units (6 courses) is required for this certificate.  MKT 3100 (Principles of Marketing) or consent of the instructor is required as a prerequisite.  This certificate is open to all students, matriculated and non-matriculated.  Non-matriculated students should enroll through Open University.  Upon completion of course requirements, students will be awarded the Certificate in Sustainability Marketing, awarded by the Department of Marketing, and when appropriate, the College of Extended Studies and International Programs.

Undergraduate Certificate in Sports Nutrition

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science offers this undergraduate credit certificate program in Sports Nutrition to adequately prepare fitness professionals, coaches, nutritionists, and others to provide fluid, and nutrient recommendations, as well as an appropriate exercise prescription to active people.

 

The program requires 16 units to complete. Courses in this program may be taken by Kinesiology and Nutritional Science students in upper division or graduate level standing. Students may only pursue the certificate program in combination with a degree program. Students in other health related disciplines such as Dietetic Technician, Nursing, Health Science, Chemistry or Biology might also find this certificate program useful. Anatomy & Physiology (BIOL 2010 and BIOL 2020) and Chemistry (CHEM 1010 /CHEM 1020) are prerequisites to this certificate program. NTRS 3170 is a prerequisite for all 4000/5000 NTRS courses in this certificate program, and KIN 3600 is a prerequisite for KIN 4560. Students will qualify for the award of the Certificate in Sports Nutrition upon the successful completion of the required courses with a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

Undergraduate Certificate in Operations and Supply Chain Management

The certificate program in operations and supply chain management is designed to prepare non-management option business students and non­business students for employment in operations and supply chain management position and to provide working and professional people with the operations and supply chain management knowledge necessary for rapid career advancement.

 

This certificate program is jointly sponsored by Continuing Education and the Department of Management. Non-matriculated students (those who are not formally admitted to the University) are eligible to enroll in the program through Open University enrollment with the consent of the instructor.

 

A minimum of  15 units is required.  Nine units are required courses and  six units are electives. Upon completion of all course requirements, the participant will be awarded a Certificate in Operations and Supply Chain Management, authorized by the Management Department and Continuing Education.

The Natural Science Program offers a Certificate in Science to enhance the knowledge, effectiveness, and career opportunities of persons who plan to interact in a professional capacity with scientific issues and/or stakeholders in those issues, as well as persons seeking personal enrichment through a stronger understanding of the fundamentals of science in an increasingly scientific and technological society. The Certificate in Science provides a broad, fundamental understanding of science in the context of everyday life - What is science? How is it done, and who decides how to do it? What is the science of current societal issues?

 

The Certificate in Science is an interdisciplinary course of study that provides a basic scientific understanding of the natural (physical) world, including fundamental scientific concepts such as cause-and-effect and other basic principles used to explain natural phenomena, as well as the processes by which scientists investigate the natural world and the processes by which societies and governments undertake the scientific enterprise. In addition, the program examines the application of scientific and technological advances in addressing contemporary, real-world issues (e.g., global climate change, genetically modified organisms, etc.) of significant interest to the general public.

 

Professionals working in fields impacted by issues of science and technology include:

-  attorneys
-   environmentalists
-   informal science educators
-   journalists
-   lobbyists
-   politicians
-   writers
-   others professionals without extensive training in science who engage with scientific issues

 

There are no prerequisites in the Certificate in Science program, and although primarily intended for persons without extensive background and training in STEM fields, admissions are open to students of all majors. The Certificate in Science requires a total of 12 units.
