San José City College offers both an Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS) and certificates in Administration of Justice – Judicial Administration. Students planning to transfer should follow the Associate in Arts. The Judicial Administration option expands the existing Administration of Justice program focus beyond primarily law enforcement to include judicial branch careers. The program offers students educational opportunities which prepare them for entry into judicial branch careers. Additionally, the curriculum addresses the educational and professional development needs of the existing judicial branch workforce and prepares students for advancement in their careers working in the courts. The program goals address the increasing need for well-prepared applicants for court positions at all levels from entry to managerial.

Students considering transferring to the California State University system and are interested in continuing their studies in the following areas: Administration of Justice, Law Enforcement, Correctional Administration, Social Science, and Pre-Law should also review the major sheet for an Associate in Science in Administration of Justice for Transfer (AS-T).

All major and certificate courses including approved major electives must be completed with a grade “C” or better.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this program, students will have learned all aspects of court functions, including:

- The operations of the various divisions of the court such as criminal, civil, family law, probate, juvenile delinquency, and dependency.

- The role of the clerk of court in functions such as legal processing, calendaring, and maintaining the court record.

- The courtroom support functions such as making the official record, jury services, and court security.

- Administrative business functions such as finance, human resources, facilities management, and information technology.

Ability to work independently and under pressure, attention to detail, organizational skills, and able to implement Federal and State compliance laws and regulations are essential qualities in a medical coder.

Latin American and Latino/a Studies is an interdisciplinary program that combines courses from multiple academic departments to give students a broad understanding of historical, social, and cultural aspects of Latin America and Latino/a communities. Coursework in social sciences, literature, music, dance, drama, and Spanish language provides a comprehensive approach to historical and contemporary issues as well as questions of identity, heritage and creative expression.

San José City College offers a Certificate of Achievement and an Associate in Science (AS) degree in Accounting. This curriculum provides training for paraprofessional accountants, payroll clerks, bookkeepers, and similar workers in banks and business firms.  Graduates from this program are qualified to meet the demands of offices requiring special skills in general bookkeeping and machine bookkeeping. Students may achieve an employment skill through this one-year program.  An advanced course in the certificate must be taken at San José City College.  A “C” grade or better is required in all required major and certificate courses including the approved program elective courses.

Included in the program are a transfer program, an AS degree, and three certificate programs. The Kitchen & Bath Design Certificate is affiliated with the NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association). The AS degree and Interior Design Certificate of Achievement meet the minimum education qualifying requirements for ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) allied membership. These, as well as the Kitchen & Bath Design Certificate and the Residential & Commercial Design Certificate fulfill the educational requirement for the IDEX exam to become a Certified Interior Designer (CID) in California. Completion of the Kitchen and Bath Design Certificate prepares students for the AKBD (Associate Kitchen & Bath Design) exam, and along with sufficient work experience in the field, the CKD (Certified Kitchen Designer) and the CBD (Certified Bath Designer) exams. If a student has an earned Bachelor's Degree, he/she needs to see a counselor regarding courses completed during the first two years of college that may be substituted for core requirement courses.
