The Certificate of Achievement in Electrical Engineering is offered to prepare students to transfer to a California State University or other university (with the exception of the University of California) as an Electrical Engineering major. This program will enable students to develop a strong foundational understanding in engineering, physics and mathematics that will be essential as they continue on the engineering pathway. In addition, students will benefit from hands-on laboratory experiences in their engineering and science courses allowing them to learn by doing. The LPC Electrical Engineering certificate is intended for transfer to a CSU or other non-UC university. Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor early on and refer to the catalog of the prospective transfer institution to determine specific major requirements required for transfer since they can vary from university to university. This program provides a solid foundation for those who want to continue their education and earn a bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic engineering which is generally required for entry-level electrical/electronic engineering jobs. The Fitness Instructor Certificate of Achievement is designed to prepare students to be employed in the area of fitness training as personal trainers/instructors and as group fitness instructors. The courses that are offered in the certificate are to prepare students to sit for a nationally recognized fitness organization and will provide a strong foundation in the field of Kinesiology. Students who have successfully completed BIO 7A and BIO 7B may substitute them for BIO 50.

 

Program Outcomes :

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Fitness Trainer, students are able to work in the field of personal trainers and as a group fitness instructor, and also identify a number of career options in the kinesiology field.

The Engineering Transfer program at Las Positas College is designed to prepare students to transfer to an engineering major at a four-year institution. The transfer program includes rigorous coursework from several different departments, including Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. Although students study general engineering majors at Las Positas, students transfer to specific engineering departments at four-year institutions.

 

The Engineering Technology program at Las Positas College is a two-year degree pathway resulting in an A.S. in Engineering Technology. This cohort-based learning community is designed as a strong local employment pathway for military veterans and others who want a hands-on engineering career with a focus on mechanical technology in an applied setting. Students receive foundational training in engineering, mathematics, physics, and welding, and develop skills in manufacturing and fabrication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. An accelerated mathematics sequence advances students from intermediate algebra to calculus-readiness in one year.

 

The Learning Community model also delivers integrated career-readiness and support services. Eligible students have the opportunity to apply for a summer internship or work experience featuring valuable worksite activities, tours, hands-on training, and job-shadowing opportunities at a local engineering company or national laboratory. Graduates of the Engineering Technology program may be employed as mechanical technicians, mechanical technologists, or in other applied engineering fields.

 

The Certificate of Achievement in Civil/Mechanical Engineering is offered to prepare students to transfer to a four-year institution as a Civil or Mechanical engineering major. The core courses required for this degree will fulfill many of the lower division requirements for most campuses in the UC and CSU systems. This program will enable students to develop a strong foundational understanding in engineering, physics and mathematics that will be essential as they continue on the engineering pathway. In addition, students will benefit from hands-on laboratory experiences in their engineering and science courses allowing them to learn by doing. Certificate of Achievement in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine

The Certificate of Achievement in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine is designed be taken in conjunction with the Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer to prepare students to apply to an Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) in the CSU system and to complete a baccalaureate degree in Athletic Training or a similar major. Students who obtain the Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer in conjunction with the Certificate of Achievement in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine will have completed the common core of lower division courses required for a CSU baccalaureate degree in Kinesiology and most prerequisites required for admission into an ATEP program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). General education requirements should be selected carefully based on the intended four-year institution and desired ATEP program. Participation in Kinesiological classes develops critical thinking, personal growth, research abilities, manual therapy skills, and an understanding of working in a clinical and athletic setting. Students should talk with a counselor to determine whether or not this certificate and degree combination is the best option for their academic goals and to ensure efficiency.

   - Upon completion of the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Certificate of Achievement, students are able to analyze and categorize various athletic training and related programs (employment settings, educational preparation/programs, certification, continuing education requirements, professional development and responsibilities).

   - Upon completion of the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Certificate of Achievement, students are able to demonstrate the skills relative to activation and implementation of the college athletic department emergency action plan, including primary and secondary surveys of an injured individual, and administration of emergency care procedures (first aid, control of bleeding, wound care, fracture/dislocation packaging, blood borne pathogen protection and CPR/AED).

  - Upon completion of the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Certificate of Achievement, students are able to apply therapeutic modalities under the supervision of a staff athletic trainer, including thermotherapy, cryotherapy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation.

  - Upon completion of the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Certificate of Achievement, students are able to explain and identify techniques associated with injury recognition, evaluation and assessment, including taking an appropriate injury history.

Students begin their training by completing the first career related courses within the program – EMS 30 Emergency Medical Responder, and EMS 20 Emergency Medical Technician with certification as an “EMT” through the California State EMS Authority. The program also includes curriculum necessary to prepare students to become a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP). Students, upon successful completion of the Las Positas College Paramedic Training Program, including the didactic, clinical, and field internship components, will be eligible to sit for the licensing examination as a Paramedic with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), and successful students will be eligible for licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P) in the state of California.

 

The Certificate of Accomplishment in Emergency Medical Responder is designed to prepare the student for a job such as firefighter, lifeguard and police officer.

 

Program Learning Outcomes:
