The Peer Health Educator Certificate is designed for students who are interested in entering the health field and supporting the health of their communities. The coursework includes health topics that most impact young people today, including personal wellness, harm reduction and drug use, and sexual and reproductive health. The certificate also provides skills in leadership development, facilitation and conflict resolution. The certificate is based on public health principles from an equity perspective to support students in working within their own diverse communities.

The Healthcare Interpreting (HCI) Certificate of Achievement program is designed to prepare bilingual and bicultural individuals to serve in a professional interpreter role and in a dual-role interpreter capacity within their regular scope of practice. The goal of the program is to develop linguistically and culturally competent interpreters and qualified bilingual staff to function effectively and efficiently in a variety of settings, serving culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Through academic preparation, skills practice labs and internship in the field, students learn social, cultural, medical, and linguistic skills that support the health and well-being of patients and clients, and of multidisciplinary teams at worksites. Professional healthcare interpreters and qualified bilingual staff are sought after by a variety of employers, such as health systems, educational systems, marketing and research firms and freelance agencies. This program meets the state and national standards, ethics, protocols and practices, and prepares students for national healthcare interpreter certifications. Up to four different languages are offered each year depending on the number and diversity of the applicant pool. Upon completion of the certificate and the HLTH 84 course, students would have completed a minimum of 375 hours of education and training.

The curriculum for the Community Mental Health Worker Certificate of Achievement is based on the wellness and recovery model in mental health. The program trains a diverse group of individuals to provide culturally affirming mental health and wellness and recovery services in San Francisco. The program engages consumers of mental health services, their family members, and other interested individuals and communities. It is comprised of courses that promote the development of skills needed to become gainfully employed as a mental health worker and enhance the knowledge base of those already employed. As part of their education, students complete an internship with a local agency serving mental health consumers.

Community Health Workers (CHW) are employed by public health, health care and social services agencies. CHWs provide client and community-centered health education, counseling and care management services. CHWs serve as a two-way bridge between communities and key health and social resources. They play a vital role in supporting low-income and other vulnerable clients to access culturally relevant services and advocate for health equity. All students will be trained in core competencies essential for success in the field, and have the opportunity to select courses that address specific health issues and communities. As part of their education, students will complete a semester-long internship with a local employer.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health accepts the certificate of achievement to satisfy six out of twelve months of experience that is required as a minimum qualification for hiring as a Health Worker 1-3.

The Certificate of Achievement in Wine Hospitality provides students with the wine knowledge, technical sales and service abilities, and social skills necessary to be a great host in wine country. The Certificate is ideal for current or future wine servers in restaurants, tasting rooms, wine bars, or catering events.

The Certificate of Achievement in Viticulture prepares students for entry-level employment in the field of Viticulture or grape-growing. The Certificate consists of core courses in viticulture and science, and focuses on the production of quality wine grapes. Students will gain both theoretical knowledges as well as hands-on experience in the college’s onsite Campus Hill Vineyard.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Viticulture, students are able to identify, plan, and implement sustainable farming practices that will improve fruit quality, provide efficacious pest and disease management, and protect natural resources and the environment.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Viticulture, students are able to show leadership capabilities by effectively training others to perform hands-on vineyard tasks.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Viticulture, students are able to work cooperatively and effectively with wineries to determine optimum harvest parameters and coordinate the operations required.

The Certificate of Achievement in Enology prepares students for entry-level employment in the field of Enology or wine-making. The Certifi cate consists of core courses in wine-making and science, and focuses on the production of quality wines. Students will gain both theoretical knowledge as well as hands-on experience on state-of-theart winery equipment.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Enology, students are able to apply general chemistry principles, wine microbiology fundamentals, and laboratory techniques to produce sound wines.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Enology, students are able to safely start up, operate, and shut down winery equipment; and effectively utilize the equipment during the winemaking process.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Enology, students are able to perform an accurate wine assessment utilizing acquired organoleptic skills.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Enology, students are able to perform wine analysis methods including laboratory/quality control test during harvest, fermentations, cellaring, and prior to bottling.

The Certificate of Achievement in Welding Technology is designed to prepare students for entry level employment in a manufacturing environment. Key outcomes of the certifi cate include operating safely while performing the welding skills necessary to pass standard industry tests. Students will also learn to use auxiliary equipment, processes and materials. Completion of the certificate will provide the student a strong knowledge foundation to utilize and apply common welding processes.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Welding Technology, students have skills necessary to pass an American Welding Society standard welding certification test.

DVC’s Music Industry Entrepreneurship certificate begins with a well-rounded set of music technology and industry courses to provide the technical foundation to produce and present music. Students are required to complete electives in small business, entrepreneurship, and marketing. The certificate also allows each student to steer their path towards their interest area(s) in music industry studies. Graduates of the Music Industry Entrepreneurship program can move into all facets of the music and entertainment industries.

To earn a certificate of achievement, students must complete each course used to meet a major requirement with a “C” grade or higher.

The audiovisual technician certificate of achievement is designed to prepare students for the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification exam administered by AVIXA International and entry-level jobs in the audiovisual industry. Audiovisual (AV) technicians set up and operate audio and video equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, and related electronic equipment for concerts, sports events, meetings and conventions, presentations, and news conferences. AV systems facilitate essential communications and often require connectivity with various types of networks, requiring AV technicians to work with information technology (IT) teams to set up and maintain that connectivity. This aspect of audiovisual technology is evolving and is influencing changes in the industry.

To earn the certificate of achievement, students must complete each of the required courses with a “C” grade or higher.
