This certificate is designed for students working toward their Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. A CPA license is a specialized and highly regarded credential in the field of accounting. Obtaining a CPA license enables individuals to work in public accounting, corporate accounting, business, government, not-for-profit, and education fields. The CPA Exam consists of four segments (1) Auditing and Attestation, (2) Business Environment & Concepts, (3) Financial Accounting & Reporting, and (4) Regulation. The CPA Exam Preparation 2 Certificate prepares students for the Business Environment & Concepts (BEC) section of the CPA Exam. The classes included in this certificate meet the 150-semester hour requirement for licensure in California.

The Certificate in Achievement in Personal Development Studies is designed to prepare students for studying Anthropology, Human Services, Psychology, Liberal Studies and Teaching, and Social Services/Sociology. Personal Development Studies offers more than career-specific preparation; it teaches students to utilize critical thinking skills to analyze problems, strategize solutions, and lead an effective and productive life. This program also creates focused exposure to diverse cultural and relational considerations. Students will consult with a counselor when planning to complete the certificate, and will gain information about university admissions and transfer requirements.

Counselors will assist students in developing a Student Education Plan that will prepare them to achieve their academic goals.

The Certificate of Achievement in Accounting offers a large selection of courses including first-year college accounting as well as more advanced and specialized courses. Courses in the program provide skills which lead to a number of goals, including career advancement for those already employed, self-employment as a bookkeeper or tax preparer, and completion of many courses needed to take the CPA exam. Career/Transfer Opportunities: Career opportunities include the following: accountants, accounting clerks, bookkeepers, tax preparers and auditors. Depending on which electives students choose, the program also satisfies many of the lower-division course requirements for transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a degree in Accounting or Business. • This certificate program can be completed fully online

The Certificate of Achievement in Web Design is intended to provide the necessary basic technical and creative skills for those planning to enter this growing field of visual communication. The program will prepare students for positions in the web design field such as entry level web designers, user experience designers, content developers, and information architects. Other examples where students might find employment using their creative problem-solving and design skills might include website development, interaction design, and the creation of interactive media such as digital publications, marketing presentations, or interactive learning products. The students, by the end of the program, are expected to understand and apply the basic principles of visual communication as applied to Interactive and Web Design, along with the basic coding skills and software skills used in web design and related fields. The certificate includes training in basic front-end coding. This program differs from the Web Development Certificate in its emphasis on the design and strategy aspects or web production, whereas the Web Development includes more training on back-end (server-side) coding. The classes in the core requirements should be taken in the general order that they are listed.

Upon completion of the Office Support Certificate of Accomplishment, students will have gained knowledge of how business functions and human relations in business. In addition, students will have acquired basic office support skills.

Network administrators manage all of the day-to-day aspects of a computer network. In addition to configuring networks, they are responsible for making the network operational 24 hours a day. Tasks performed include installing and configuring new equipment, including desktop PCs and servers; troubleshooting day-to-day problems and unusual issues with networked equipment; and evaluating the need for upgrades or replacements of current computer hardware and software solutions. Students who complete this program can become network administrators in virtually all businesses and enterprises where computers and networks are used. Students are also well prepared for industry certification.

Network administrators manage all of the day-to-day aspects of a computer network. In addition to configuring networks, they are responsible for making the network operational 24 hours a day. Tasks performed include installing and configuring new equipment, including desktop PCs and servers; troubleshooting day-to-day problems and unusual issues with networked equipment; and evaluating the need for upgrades or replacements of current computer hardware and software solutions.

Network administrators manage an organization’s servers and desktop and mobile equipment. They ensure that email and data storage networks work properly. They also make sure that employees’ workstations are working efficiently and stay connected to the central computer network. Some administrators manage telecommunication networks.

Earning this certificate of achievement is advantageous for students who already have a degree but are looking to update their existing skills. The courses required in this certificate can also be used toward the Associate in Science in Network Administrator.

The Certificate of Achievement in “Digital Illustration” is designed to provide the necessary creative and technical skills for students interested in the field of digital illustration. Students in the program will develop an ability to conceptualize, create and critique various graphic solutions. They will build a strong technical background and an ability to work with industry-standard vector, bitmap and 3D graphic software. Graduates will leave the program with an understanding of available career pathways as well as the skills, experience and portfolio necessary to enter the workforce. The program prepares students to work as self-employed independent contractors, fine artists, or within a company, e.g. as graphic artists, technical illustrators and graphic designers. Though this certificate is designed as a standalone program it is also an excellent complement to other related programs including Graphic Design, Web Design, User Experience Design, Game Design, and Fine Art. The program is designed so that students completing the program will have the technical skills, creative skills, and communication skills required for a career in digital illustration. 

Career/Transfer Opportunities: This program will prepare creative individuals with many career opportunities related to Art, Design, Illustration, Multimedia and Animation. Some specific examples of related job titles: Artist (graphic artist, technical artist, commercial artist, production artist, fine artist etc.) Illustrator (technical illustrator, commercial illustrator, graphic illustrator, etc.) Designers (graphic designer, multimedia designer, animation designer, etc.) The program is also designed to complement other existing programs, such as the Graphic Design, Web Design, User Experience Design and Fine Art. Students in these related programs will greatly benefit from building these complementary digital illustration skills.

The Certificate of Achievement in Graphic Design provides opportunities for the student to develop fluency in contemporary graphic design issues and techniques. The emphasis of the program is on increasing the students creative problem-solving abilities along with an introduction to design techniques and principles to provide the basic skills necessary to enter many growing, professional fields. The student also learns software skills used in the production of graphic design deliverables for clients. Opportunities exist in advertising, print publishing, web publishing, mobile and desktop application design, and corporate communication. The classes in the core requirements should be taken in the general order that they are listed. The Music Department at Ohlone College has developed the Music Theory Certificate of Accomplishment to recognize the completion of acquired skills in the field of music theory and musicianship. Students who demonstrate the personal dedication and passion to finish this program are rewarded with an expanded skills set in music theory and musicianship; the conceptual tools to apply the same techniques to other life tasks; and the continued pride of program completion. This certificate is a stepping stone on the path to either the Ohlone Associate in Arts in Music or the Associate in Arts in Music for Transfer.
