The Accounting Certificate of Achievement prepares students for a variety of entry-level positions in the accounting field. Students will acquire basic accounting knowledge, as well as skills such as QuickBooks and Excel.

This certificate is designed to prepare students for paraprofessional positions that require skills in American Sign Language and cultural competence among Deaf people. The certificate instills an appreciation of the multicultural, sociolinguistic Deaf minority, who comprise a historically oppressed group and possess a rich cultural history and a vibrant language. This study enriches students of all majors, as global citizens, to think critically across differences in human experience and to build social relationships in personal and/or professional contact with Deaf persons. This certificate leads into the Associate in Arts in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies.

2. Apply knowledge and skills in ASL and Deaf culture to demonstrate critical thinking through understanding, advocacy, and advancement of issues that impact the lives of Deaf children and adults.

3. Utilize knowledge from Deaf Studies and the ability to communicate in ASL with multiculturally diverse members of the Deaf community at the level that will support employment in various professional and paraprofessional occupations in which ASL and knowledge in Deaf Studies are essential.

The goal and objective of this program are to prepare students for entry-level accounting positions in business, industry, or government. There is a large and growing need for this skill set in the community. Graduates often start as beginning-level accountants in a small business or enter a specialty field in the industry. Such opportunities include working in payroll, accounts receivable/payable, and general ledger. The qualified individual often advances rapidly to a professional accounting position, particularly in small businesses.

The 3D Foundations in Art Certificate of Achievement signifies that students have acquired skills in the fundamentals of three-dimensional art. This Certificate provides a firm foundation for continued study in any field of 3D arts: sculpture, glass, ceramics, or installation arts. In addition, students explore self, identity, culture, and the history of 3D arts. Attaining this certificate of achievement is the foundation for the completion of the Associate in Arts in Studio Arts for Transfer.

Requirements for Certificate of Achievement

a) Complete Major Field courses.
b) Complete at least six units at Ohlone College.
c) Maintain a 2.0 grade point average in Major Field courses.

In addition to providing skills in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish, the certificate provides a greater understanding of Spanish culture and civilization and prepares students for greater international and domestic career opportunities. Given the multinational nature of the business world today, fluency in a foreign language, such as Spanish, increases an individual's marketability and value in the areas of banking, consular and junior foreign service, education, import/export business, international business, international relations, medicine, nursing, overseas employment, police work, social security, translating/interpreting services, and social services.

This certificate prepares students for the Real Estate Salesperson licensing examination. The license is required of individuals who conduct licensed real estate activities as described by Real Estate Law in California. Licensed Real Estate Salespersons work under the supervision of a licensed broker.

Career Opportunities

Salespersons in real estate are generally employed in real estate offices serving the general public. However, some agents secure employment with commercial enterprises operating in the real estate industry (e.g., developers, government agencies, escrow companies, loan officer, mortgage banker, property manager, etc.)
