The Environmental Horticulture Certificate provides students with a foundation in plant production and pest management. Students will engage in hands on learning about soils, plants, fertilizers, and pests. Career opportunities in environmental horticulture may include greenhouse production, nursery technician, and landscape maintenance. The Environmental Horticulture Certificate requires 29 major units. Students should see a counselor to develop an education plan.

Woodland Community College is located in Yolo County, home to a diverse group of farms and many Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) groups in the Capay Valley. The Woodland Community College Sustainable Agriculture Certificate of Achievement program is designed to engage students in agricultural practices and techniques that promote sustainability. Core courses introduce students to career opportunities and field experiences, while foundation courses in plant and soil science provide students with background information in general agriculture. The major courses in pest management and sustainable food systems emphasize specific approaches to sustainable agriculture and resources linked to energy. Further, a leadership element to the program prepares students for carrying out projects in agriculture focused on production and supply of nutritious foods.

This program will prepare students for high demand occupations that involve sustainable agriculture practices.  Typical jobs include: farming, agriculture production, market gardener, farm manager, propagator, crop consultant, organic inspector, farm advisor, agricultural supplier, compost production, food technologist.

The Agriculture Research Technician Certificate of Achievement combines preparatory coursework in workforce development with major specific topics in plant or soil science, to develop the pathway within agriculture. Students will be able to develop a base set of skills that are required to be successful in the increasingly complex business and production operations in the agriculture industry. Students will be prepared for this high demand industry following completion of coursework spanning research in workforce and careers, agricultural markets and policies, quantifying the value of farm operations, and recognizing the impact of food production and the environment in sustaining life.

The Agriculture Business Certificate of Achievement is designed for students interested in working in the area of agricultural related business. Career opportunities in agricultural business may include working in banking, agricultural/farm credit, agricultural insurance, consulting firms, or agricultural product distribution and sales. The agricultural business sector is infused within all aspects of agriculture: across production, processing, distribution, and support opportunities linked to agriculture. In the state of California, agriculture is the #1 commodity which further increases our student’s employment opportunities.

This certificate is designed to provide students with a solid business foundation related to the agriculture industry, using specific commodity examples that are marketed and sold. This program also prepares students to transfer to an Agriculture Business program at a four-year university. Students who plan to transfer should talk to a counselor or advisor to select appropriate general education and elective courses that will meet the requirements of the chosen university program.

The Accounting Certificate of Achievement is designed for students who would like to become full-charge bookkeepers. The certificate can also be used as a stepping stone towards the Associate of Science Degree in Accounting. After completing the coursework for this certificate, a student will be able to use introductory managerial accounting concepts to make decisions within a business. They will be able to apply generally accepted accounting principles to record common business transactions, to prepare simple financial statements, and to analyze the results of operations, cash flows, and financial position as reported. Students will learn to use computer technology and applications to record, report, and analyze business transactions and their effects on operating, investing, and financing activities.

The Community Advocacy and Engagement Certificate of Achievement is designed to provide students with an opportunity to study a broad range of topics within Sociology and to gain direct experience working within a non-profit Community Based Organization (CBO). Issues of Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice are core to this Certificate. Students who enroll in Sociology courses are introduced to important and complex sociological issues impacting marginalized communities in the U.S. The importance of effective communication and collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds are emphasized. Topics addressed in courses within the Certificate include: the role and impact of social institutions in U.S. society, race relations, social stratification, and social class. Also introduced are the three major theoretical perspectives, applied in Sociology including: functionalism, conflict, and symbolic interaction. Students will utilize these theoretical perspectives to analyze various topics. The Work Experience course will provide students with the opportunity to gain invaluable experience working within a non-profit CBO.  Students wishing to earn the Community Advocacy and Engagement Certificate of Achievement must complete each required area course with a grade of “C” or better.

The Patient Navigator program provides students with basic training in foundational skills and knowledge needed to provide quality customer service and navigation services to patients in a range of community health settings. Patient Navigators provide individualized assistance in a culturally and ethnically competent manner for health consumers, families, and caregivers as a means of reducing and overcoming barriers and facilitating timely access to quality healthcare through all phases of the healthcare continuum.  Navigators act as a bridge between the team, patients, family, and community to improve health outcomes. Students will be required to complete 70 hours of unpaid work experience in an appropriate healthcare setting approved by the program coordinator.

This one year certificate program offers students training in medical terminology, health education, introductory medical assisting, and cross-cultural communication skills.  The Patient Navigator certificate serves as a pathway for students looking to start or further their career in healthcare roles such as Medical Assisting.

Completion of this certificate provides the first step in making an informed decision regarding the selection of additional programs of study leading to academic and health care career goals.

The Certificate of Completion will only appear on documents issued directly by the Medical Assistant Department.  The  Certificate of Completion will not be noted on the transcript.

San José City College offers a IT Support Certificate which is designed for and aligned to the Google IT Support Professional Certificate. Students who complete this certificate will be exposed to and become proficient in the IT Technical Support field. This certificate combines the necessary IT skills to make sound IT decisions, to troubleshoot and resolve IT-related issues.  In this program, students will gain valuable professional skills in: customer service, troubleshooting, network protocols, cloud computing, windows operating system, Linux command line, systems administration, encryption algorithms and techniques.  

A grade of “C” or better is required in all certificate courses.

Students who complete the Emerging Tech Entrepreneurship certificates will be exposed to and become proficient in the coursework to become entrepreneurs in a technical field. This program combines the business skills necessary to make sound business decisions with the technical know-how to survive in the 21st century. Students will learn how to build and manage successful modern technical businesses.
