The Associate in Science in Public Health Science for Transfer degree prepares leaders who promote community health, prevent disease, and improve environmental conditions in which people can be healthy. The degree is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in public health and the health sciences, as well as public health theories, concepts, and applications to succeed in upper-division coursework in public health and health-related majors at a four-year college or university.
Successful completion of this program guarantees priority admission to the California State University (CSU) system (though not to a particular campus or major). Students that are accepted into a public health major at the CSU will have to complete no more than 60 units to obtain their degree. The AS-T degree in Public Health Science is designed to prepare those students interested in majoring in biology, health science, or public health. It is also designed to prepare students that are considering careers in health sciences, healthcare, medicine, and similar research fields for transfer.
To earn the Associate in Arts in Public Health Science for Transfer, students must:
1. Complete 60-semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
a. The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the
California State University General Education โ Breadth (CSU-GE Breadth) Requirements
b. A minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district
2. Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0
3. Complete all courses within the major with a minimum grade of C or P if taken on a Pass/No Pass basis
