The Associate in Arts in Social Justice: Ethnic Studies for Transfer Degree, (AA-T ETHST) is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer with junior status and priority admission to their CSU campus to a program or major in Ethnic Studies or similar major for completion of a baccalaureate degree.

The Associate in Arts in Social Science is an interdisciplinary program of study designed to prepare students to transfer to most universities. It is a general social science degree that does not specialize in one specific discipline. The degree allows students to explore a number of transfer and career possibilities within the social sciences. The general emphasis provides a strong foundation for students pursuing a baccalaureate major within a wide range of social science disciplines, including administration of justice, anthropology, Chicano Studies, economics, ethnic studies, geography, history, psychology, or sociology. Through this interdisciplinary program, students will gain a better understanding of human behavior, social relationships, and social structures.

It is imperative that students entering Ohlone's Associate in Arts in Social Science meet with a counselor at the start of their academic work. Counselors will assist students in preparing a comprehensive Student Education Plan that will prepare them to achieve their academic goals.

The Associate in Science in Registered Nurse - Pre offered by Ohlone College is designed to prepare students to apply to nursing programs or related health science majors. The core courses in the associate degree in Registered Nurse - Pre will fulfill the required coursework for most nursing programs at community colleges and California State University campuses. The coursework includes the required core science courses and related general education courses that are part of the prerequisites for most nursing programs at community colleges or local California State University campuses. Students will gain a strong foundation in the core sciences of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, human development, and nutritional sciences. Communication courses will provide essential skills necessary for success in diverse healthcare fields that serve various cultures, languages, and age groups. Healthcare careers including registered nursing, respiratory therapy, physical therapy assistants, medicine, public health, and
others will benefit from these core courses. Students who complete this associate degree are prepared to apply to a Registered Nursing program at a community college to earn an associate degree or apply to a California State University campus to earn a bachelor's degree.

Requirements for Associate in Science Degree

a) Complete Major Field courses with a grade of C or better.
b) Complete Ohlone College General Education (Plan A), CSU GE (Plan B), or IGETC (Plan C) requirements. These requirements are specified in the Ohlone College catalog.
c) Complete at least 60 degree-applicable units with a 2.0 grade point average.
d) Complete at least 12 units at Ohlone College.

Engineers apply the theories and principles of science and mathematics to solve real-world problems. The engineering major provides a solid foundation in math, science, and engineering concepts, and prepares students looking to transfer to obtain their Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering, or looking to enter the field as an engineering technician. Engineers in the electrical or computer fields work in a wide variety of industries including renewable energy production, computer hardware, environmental controls, signal processing, product design, and machine learning. Engineering continues to be an excellent career choice. It is the second largest profession, being exceeded only by teaching. Careers in computer and electrical engineering include: computer engineers, electrical engineers, product developers, roboticists, researchers, engineering teachers, and project managers.

The Associate in Arts in Natural Science has three areas of emphasis: Biological Science; Mathematics and Technology; and Physical Science. Students may choose one of these emphases to earn a degree in Natural Science. These emphases will provide students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in a variety of science or technological careers. Graduates with an Associate in Arts in Natural Science will develop a strong foundation in the life sciences, physical sciences, and mathematics. Furthermore, the theoretical knowledge and laboratory skills acquired by students in these programs will also enhance their success with obtaining entry-level jobs that require two years of college-level science and math.

The Associate in Science in Hospitality Management for Transfer degree (AS-T CULIN) is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer with junior status and priority admission to their local CSU campus to a program or major in Hospitality Management or similar major for completion of a baccalaureate degree.

1. Produce food according to professional industry standards.

2. Demonstrate current food service sanitation procedures.

3. Analyze current hospitality trends and their effect on customer service and industry growth.

The Data Analytics AS degree is an expansion on the CIS department Data Science Fundamentals Certificate of Achievement and prepares students for careers as data analyst, data scientist, machine learning engineers, business analyst, computer systems analyst, logistics analyst, marketing analyst, and database managers. The multidisciplinary program provides the analytical, methodological, and programming skills required in data processing, information technology, business, and computing. The certificate will also serve as a foundation for continued education at four-year institutions

What is Astronomy? Astronomy is the study of heavenly bodies, such as planets, stars, and galaxies. Astronomers use observations of the sky to learn more about the universe we live in These observations can be made with no instruments, with simple telescopes, or with very sophisticated apparatus able to sense electromagnetic waves beyond the visible spectrum with great resolution. Astronomy is one of the oldest of the natural sciences and some of the great discoveries in related disciplines, such
as physics, trace their origin to astronomical studies.

Why study Astronomy at College of Alameda? Our lower-division introductory astronomy courses introduce students to the key concepts and principles in astronomy. By using observational techniques and learning how to apply laws of nature to explain astronomical phenomena, students develop critical problem-solving skills, which help them succeed academically at four year colleges and universities and also make them marketable in the labor market.

The Associate in Arts Degree in Commercial Music is designed for music students whose career goals are focused on the recording industry, concert promotions, and other commercial ventures. Students will explore aspects of the music production process including: recording, marketing, and distribution.
