This additional breadth is appropriate for students seeking transfer to bachelorโ€™s degree programs where admission is highly competitive. All students completing this degree will take courses in six key areas: history and cultural traditions of theater, acting technique, performance procedures, stage design or stage management, production crew, and shop work. Examples of specialized coursework include vocal skills, musical theater, audio production, costume construction, stage management and contemporary theater history and criticism. By developing skills used across many forms of live entertainment, students build a portfolio of employable skills applicable to professions such as live entertainment technician, production manager, actor, singer, and dancer. Students will have the opportunity to participate in live performances on stage and as a member of the production crew. Students will spend time in the IVC theater shops learning how to build scenery and costumes. However, specific entry level employment opportunities may require additional education or experience.

Associate in Science Degree for Transfer in Public Health

The Associate in Science in Public Health for Transfer prepares students to transfer to California State University campuses that offer bachelorโ€™s degrees in Health, Health Science, and Public Health Science. California Education Code Section 66746-66749 states that students earning the Associate in Science in Public Health for Transfer degree will be granted priority for admission as a Health Science major to a local CSU, as determined by the CSU campus to which the student applies. Students completing these degrees (AS-T) are guaranteed admission to the CSU system but not to a particular campus or major.


The Associate in Science in Public Health Science for Transfer focuses on understanding populations' health. This degree is designed to prepare students to continue their study of public health by providing a comprehensive preparation for upper-division work. Students choosing this degree program will study various topics related to preserving human health and reducing disease, particularly in vulnerable populations.  Students will understand and assess the burden of disease on the health of populations, including the impact of environmental exposures; use data to support evidence-based practices; develop and deliver health programs and interventions based on behavior frameworks; and evaluate health programs and initiatives for effectiveness. Public Health Science bridges the gap between scientific discoveries and applying this knowledge to improve the quality of life.


The Associate in Science in Public Health for Transfer program requires 60 CSU-transferable semester units. Minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework. While a minimum of 2.0 is required for admission, some majors may require a higher GPA. Please consult with a counselor for more information. Students should consult an OCC counselor when planning to complete the degree for more information on university admission and transfer requirements for institutions outside the CSU system.

This degree provides students with concise, broad based education in theater arts. Students receive instruction in the skills of the actor as well as the many behind the scenes disciplines such as lighting design, costume construction, directing, and stage management. Students in this program will have multiple opportunities to participate in theater department productions as a member of the cast or crew. All courses in this program are UC/CSU transferable.


Pursuant to SB1440, section 66756, to earn an AA-T in Theatre Arts degree students must:

๐Ÿ—ธ Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of degree-applicable courses,

๐Ÿ—ธ Minimum overall grade point average of 2.0,

Students graduating with an Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer Degree are well positioned to complete a Bachelorโ€™s Degree in a similar major within the California State University system with 60 units of upper-division coursework. Students completing this program can pursue work as live entertainment technicians with employers such as regional theaters, theme parks, convention centers, concert producers, opera companies, dance companies, cruise ships, and cirque troupes. Students develop skills used across many forms of live entertainment such as operating equipment used in a theatrical production, constructing stage scenery, managing workgroups, and design of staging elements. Students build a portfolio of employable skills applicable to professions such as stage manager, production manager, stage rigger, stage carpenter, entertainment electrician, and audio technician. However, specific entry level employment opportunities may require additional education or experience. Students completing this degree will take courses in five key areas: history and cultural traditions of theater, performance procedures, stage design or stage management, performance crew, and shop work. Examples of specialized coursework include scene painting, stage makeup, audio production, costume construction, and stage management. Associate in Science Degree in Professional Mariner

The Professional Mariner degree prepares students for careers in the maritime industry in Southern California and around the world in private or commercial vessel operations: large private yachts, charter yachts, cruise ships, passenger ferries, sport fishing, commercial fishing, whale watching, dive boats, supply vessels, work boats, tug boats, and commercial shipping. These vessels must operate with qualified crew so the curriculum for the Orange Coast College Professional Mariner program was developed with guidance from an Advisory Council of maritime industry professionals who ranked skills and knowledge that they require in their deck crew. Upon completion of the program, there are employment opportunities with competitive salary.


Students must be able to swim 50 yards and tread water for 10 minutes. Previous boating experience is advantageous but not required. Facility fees will be charged.

This program provides students with the technical skills and systems analysis necessary for entry-level positions as Airframe and Powerplant Certificated Mechanics in the aviation industry, such as airframe inspection, powerplant inspection, maintenance, and return-to-flight status of all types of U.S. Certificated aircraft. This certificate would enable a student to achieve employment in local powerplant and propeller overhaul facilities and repair stations.
