Associate in Science Degree in Chemistry

Yuba College

Marysville, CA

The Chemistry Department at Yuba College offers two degrees in Chemistry; the Associates Degree for Transfer (AST) and a local Associates Degree in Chemistry. Both degrees prepare a student to transfer to a bachelor’s degree-granting college or university. The AS in Chemistry is designed for students in pre-professional studies in the medical field. It may also meet requirements for other majors such as environmental chemistry, forensic science and pharmaceutical chemistry. The AS degree differs from the AST degree in one main area, the physics requirement. Not all transfer universities require calculus-based physics. The AS gives students an option to satisfy the physics requirement. The AS degree also provides an important milestone for the student and sends a clear signal to potential employers that a student is goal-oriented and will stick to a task until its completion. In all cases, students should consult with a counselor for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.

Students who complete this program should be able to:

πŸ—Έ Recognize and implement chemical symbolism, notation, nomenclature and vocabulary.
πŸ—Έ Apply chemistry concepts; demonstrate inductive reasoning.
πŸ—Έ Apply chemistry concepts; demonstrate inductive reasoning.
πŸ—Έ Conduct chemistry laboratory operations and demonstrate manual skills
