This program is designed to develop students' competencies for addressing the environmental, social, and economic challenges and opportunities associated with agricultural and food systems sustainability. The program emphasizes an experiential learning approach to sustainability education, allowing students to choose between three tracks within the major. Students in the Agriculture & Ecology track focus on crop and animal production systems, ecology, and practices that mitigate negative impacts while producing environmental and social benefits. Students in the Food & Society track focus on issues related to the social, cultural, political and community development aspects of agriculture and food systems. Students in the Economics & Policy track focus on issues related to agricultural and resource economics, policy and management. The program provides students with practical experiences through courses with on- and off-campus fieldwork and through internship placements at sites related to students' interests and focus of study.


Internships & Career Alternatives
Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems students are required to complete an internship in the field before graduation. Internships have been arranged with local, county, & state agricultural agencies, production farms and commercial processors & retailers, domestic & international non-governmental organizations, and rural & urban community development programs. Graduates are prepared to pursue a broad range of careers related to agricultural production & food system management, rural & urban community services, education & development, and agricultural & environmental sciences, as well as careers in agricultural, environmental, and economic policy & analysis. Positions may be in private industry, government and public service agencies and in the non-profit sector, nationally and internationally. The major also prepares students for graduate studies in a wide range of fields related to agriculture and food systems.

The purpose of the Administration of Justice program is to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the field of law enforcement, corrections, special investigations, and other public safety-related fields.


The program offers Associate Degrees, Academies, and Continuing Education/Professional Development courses. The program serves students pursuing a transfer degree, students seeking entry-level employment following completion of a state-certified academy, and students currently employed who need additional training to stay current and to qualify for promotional opportunities in their field of employment.


The Administration of Justice Program operates with the cooperation and participation of local criminal justice agencies. All instructors in the program have experience in the criminal justice field. The instructors and staff are committed to preparing students for academic success and providing relevant training and education for students and employers in the community.


For the most part, program academies and certified courses are required by state law for entry-level employment in law enforcement, corrections, and public safety-related fields. The AJ program fills an essential training needs in maintaining a professional partnership with state agencies such as the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and the Board of State and Community Corrections. (BSCC - STC) In addition to the mandated entry-level training certifications, the State of California also requires regular updated or professional development/in-service training for employees working in the public safety sector

The department's lower division program gives students a solid foundation in the Spanish language, either through the traditional elementary and intermediate language series or through an accelerated three-course sequence of Spanish for native speakers. At the upper division level, students receive a broad introduction to basic concepts and the practice of literary and cultural criticism and to the four areas of study represented in the department's curriculum: Spanish linguistics, Spanish literature and culture, Latin-American literature and culture, and Latina/o literatures and cultures in the United States. Associate of Science in Administration of Justice for Transfer Degree

The Associate of Science in Administration of Justice for Transfer degree prepares students for upper-division coursework for a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. By design of curriculum, students will be able to describe the individual functions and components of the modern criminal justice system; use technology concepts of legal research to locate, and discuss the content of statutory and case law; analyze criminology factors that contribute to the cause of criminal behavior, reoccurrence of recidivism,  and strategies and practices established for the control of crime. In addition, this program encompasses ethical practices, standards and expectations within the entire criminal justice system.


Proper selection of curriculum electives further allows students to study other academic disciplines, such as chemistry or biology, psychology, sociology, public administration and computer science. For example, if you have an interest in forensic anthropology, you may choose chemistry or biology as important electives to consider.


To earn this AA-T degree, students must meet the following Associate in Arts Degree for Transfer requirements (pursuant to SB 1440 law):

🗸 Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University.
🗸 The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education Breadth Requirements.
🗸 A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
🗸 Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
🗸 Earn a grade of “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis.
