Certificate of Achievement in Emergency Response: Emphasis in EMS & Fire Science

College of Marin

Kentfield, CA

Emergency Response and Management requires an eclecticism in the knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, basic life support, stress management, grief counseling, emergency First-Aid and life-saving skill performance, mental preparedness, and physical toughness, all performed under high-stress conditions, often while human life and safety is at stake.  It takes several decades in a busy 911 system to perfect these skills to some degree, and this Certificate of Achievement (COA) indicates that graduating students meet the minimum proficiencies in all categories to begin their career toward that mastery.   A capable body, mind, and hard-work are required to begin a career in Emergency Patient Care and Hazard Management.  The rigorous milestones toward successful completion and the variety of expertise in science, technology, physical agility, stamina, mental clarity, and maturity required to navigate the field are often underestimated by students before pursuing careers in this field.  It is, therefore, important for those enrolling in Fire Technology to be fully aware of its requirements before investing time and effort.  Because of this, a COA in Fire Science demonstrates to the student and employers the profundity of completing all the college's foundational Fire Technology courses and their related support courses. All students should consult a counselor.
