The Japanese language is one of the popular languages in the world and the culture are unique and attract many people in the world. In addition to this, Japanese people play a crucial role among the East Bay communities. In the 1880's Japanese immigrants started to settle in Oakland, California, building a community of more than 1,500 by the 1910s. Until today, the Japanese American population in Oakland east bay region has become one of the largest groups in northern California. Students will learn advanced Japanese skills and gain knowledge of Japanese culture. These classes open up opportunities for students in the workforce in th educational/travel fields of translation and interpretation in English and Japanese.

Upon completion of this program a student will be able to:

🗸 Describe, analyze and interpret literary, historical, and cultural texts, films, documentaries, and videos to better understand the identity of Japanese or Japanese American in and outside United States.

The Police Science degree and certificate program provides practical and technical instruction to meet the requirements of law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. The program is designed for men and women who are interested in careers as a law enforcement officer with responsibilities of ensuring the security of human rights and maintaining social order according to the democratic system. Some responsibilities of law enforcement officers include enforcing laws and detecting and arresting violators of the law, crime prevention, and protecting life and property.

To qualify for the Associate of Arts in Administration of Justice: Police Science degree, students must satisfactorily complete the Degree Major requirements and the local AA/AS General Education requirements. See the Associate Degrees and Certificates section of this catalog for more information on the local AA/AS overall requirements and the local AA/AS General Education requirements.

A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the minimum 32 units specified for the certificate (excluding the 9 additional units required for the degree major). The AA degree may be completed in four semesters, while the certificate may be completed in two semesters.

Note: Students should see a counselor at least once each semester to plan for their educational goal(s).

The Corrections degree and certificate program provides preparatory instruction necessary for persons who wish entry into four-year institutions for careers as Correctional Officers, Counselors or Probation and Parole Officers with federal, state, and county agencies. Entry-level employment may be available after satisfactory completion of the AA degree or certificate requirements.

The noncredit Virtual Production Fundamentals Certificate of Completion is designed to prepare students for jobs in Virtual Production. Virtual Production is an emerging industry that is becoming an integral part of film, video, and broadcast pipelines, unlocking new doors for students studying game design, animation, XR/VR, video, IT, and project integration and management. The Virtual Production Fundamentals Certificate of Completion will provide students with the basics of the virtual production process including 3D animation, digital imaging, film production, game design/development, visual effects, and virtual production process.

Requirements for Certificate of Completion

a) Complete Major Field and Elective courses.

The noncredit User Experience (UX) and Interface Design Certificate of Completion is intended for students wishing to acquire skills in User Experience (UX) design, User Interface (UI) design, and front-end development for job advancement and immediate employment. Through lectures and hands-on instructions, students are introduced to a variety of processes, technologies, and workflows including User Experience (UX) design and research methods, ideation techniques, prototyping, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Upon completion of this Career Education certificate, students will have gained the foundational skills to apply for employment within the area of front end web design, UI/UX design, interactive design, mobile application development, and others. The core competencies of this program are Design Thinking, which includes understanding the audience through empathy and research; optimizing media for web publishing; understanding Graphic Design principles; interface design and prototyping; HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript; responsive Design Skills; and collaborating and critiquing.

Requirements for Certificate of Completion

a) Complete at least three courses at Ohlone College.

This certificate includes coursework that analyzes social, cultural, political, and historical developments to understand systems of power, privilege, oppression, and resistance. The included curriculum enables students to engage in the rhetoric of agitation and practice different strategies of advocacy and activism.

a) Complete satisfactorily the courses listed for the particular certificate.
b) Complete at least 50% of the required units at Ohlone College.
c) Maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

The ESOL/Ethnic Studies Certificate of Achievement verifies that a student has successfully taken high intermediate or advanced ESOL, including a Reading and Writing and a Listening and Speaking or Grammar course, along with an elective in Ethnic Studies. The Certificate of Competency in ESOL Entry Level Employment Skills (CCy ESOL) verifies that a student has achieved the outcomes of the employment-related first two courses in the four-course Basic English non-credit ESOL course sequence and basic coursework in the use of computers for work and school. This sequence prepares students with entry-level English communication skills to seek employment in the United States. Students interested in completing this certificate should consult with the ESOL department chair and a counselor.
