The World Folkloric Dance and Teaching Preparation Certificate of Achievement recognizes the completion and mastery of World Folkloric Dance forms in one or more of the following dance genres: African Dance, LatinCaribbean Dance, Asian-Pacific Islander Cultural Dance, Urban Street Dance, or European Folk Dance as a critical foundation for teaching and performance in dance and related performing arts careers. Students will emphasize Dance as a tool for global education and intercultural communication. Supplemental coursework integrates 21st century dance and media technology, dance production, dance studio management; dance choreography, dance performance, and arts administration. Students will examine basic form and function, movement theory, improvisation, and Dance History with an emphasis on art as a tool for building social justice awareness. Musicality, dance forms, spatial awareness, performance readiness, injury prevention, and dance making through creation of group and solo choreography. After completing this program, students will be able to teach dance in camp and afterschool settings, perform in multi-level dance companies, run rehearsals, compose choreography for musicals, plays, and amateur dance companies, or continue with their studies towards an associate degree. The Reformer Training Certificate of Achievement is the second in a series of three progressive Pilates teacher training preparation programs offered through the Department of Dance at Laney college. This program is designed to equip students with exceptional knowledge, skills, and teacher preparation foundation for Pilatesbased movement systems. Successful completion of one or more Joyful Movement Life Skills Pilates training programs leads to careers in fitness centers, health and wellness centers, or privately owned studios. Some students may choose to pursue more education to incorporate Pilates into careers such as personal training, sports medicine, physical and dance movement therapy. Students are advised not to start the Reformer Certificate until they have completed the Mat Certificate (the first part of the Joyful Movement Life Skills program). The Joyful Movement Life Skills Mat Training Certificate is the first in a series of progressive training programs. Successful completion of one or more single Joyful Movement Life Skills Certificates of Achievements leads to careers in fitness centers, health and wellness centers, or privately owned studios. Some students may choose to pursue more education to incorporate Pilates into careers such as personal training, sports medicine, chiropractic offices, physical and dance movement therapy or entry into higher education programs; Kinesiology, Sports Fitness, Dance, and Athletics.

The Joyful Movement Life Skills Comprehensive Apparatus Training Certificate of Achievement program is designed for students who seek dance and wellness integration opportunities that prepare them for careers as nationally certified Pilates instructors and other commercial whole body and fitness ventures. Completion of this certificate will provide students with the skills they need to sit for the Pilates Method Alliance National Certification Exam and work in higher level Pilates positions such as Comprehensive Pilates instructors, Gym or community center instructors, partner with schools, work in Pilates studios or develop their own clientele. Study includes hands-on Comprehensive Apparatus training including Chair, Reformer, Cadillac, and small equipment; National Pilates Certification exam preparedness; advanced Pilates technique, theory and methodology, dance integration, and race, class, and gender considerations in health and wellness industries. Students are advised not to start the Apparatus Certificate until they have completed the Reformer and Mat Certificate (the first part of the Joyful Movement Life Skills program).
