This certificate documents extensive coursework on the part of the recipient in fire and emergency services organization, fire behavior, fire prevention, building construction, and fire protection systems and equipment. Completion of this curriculum provides students with fundamental knowledge of fire department operations, organization and basic fire prevention methods and techniques.

Students completing the Public Service Option Certificate are prepared for employment as volunteer, paid-on-call, part-time, or full-time firefighters. Through a combination of professional education and technical training, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to perform essential and advanced fire ground tasks. Students learn to use, inspect, and maintain firefighting and rescue equipment; and perform basic rescue operations and fire prevention and investigation tasks. As they advance through the program students are provided with numerous opportunities to earn professional certificates and industry-recognized credentials. Students successfully completing the program receive state and national Fire Fighter 1 Certification through the California Office of the State Fire Marshal, IFSAC (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress) and Pro Board accrediting agencies.

Learning Outcome(s):

🗸 Demonstrate the occupational knowledge and technical skills needed to perform the duties of a Fire Fighter I which is based upon NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications (2019) and California State Fire Trainings Fire Fighter 1 (2019).

🗸 Demonstrate the occupational knowledge and technical skills required to carry out the duties of a Wildland Firefighter, based upon NFPA 1051: Standard for Wildland Firefighting Personnel Professional Qualifications (2016).

🗸 Demonstrate the occupational knowledge and technical skills needed to carry out the duties of Haz Mat/WMD Emergency Responder based upon NFPA 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications (2017).

The Fire Prevention Officer Certificate is designed to prepare students as Fire Inspectors and as staff assistants to Fire Protection Engineers; to enable fire department personnel to upgrade skills in the area of prevention; and to give architects, engineers and persons from other disciplines an opportunity to expand their knowledge of building, life safety, and fire protection. This certificate program meets the partial requirements of the California State Board of Fire Services Certified Fire Inspector I and college or university preparation.

🗸 Analyze, evaluate, and develop mitigation plans for emergency and hazardous conditions that are inherent to Fire Prevention.

The certificate program in fire administration is designed to prepare students for careers as fire service officers. The program meets requirements of the California State Board of Fire Services Company Officer and college or university preparation. Transcript evaluation may allow up to a maximum of 18 units of credit for previous fire service education.

This certificate curriculum is designed to prepare students for entry-level design assistant positions in the apparel industry. All classes offer sections available online.

The Nutrition and Foods Certificate is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge and skills in nutritional science, food science, food preparation, and food safety and sanitation. The required courses prepare students for entry-level positions in nutrition and foods. Examples of entry-level positions include nutrition assistants for community agencies such as The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Head Start, diet aides or diet clerks in hospitals, and dietary service workers in hospitals or school food service. This certificate requires a total of 16-17 units. A grade of C or better is required in each course taken.

The Networking Skills Certificate prepares students for a career using computer networks in business. This will include skills in installing and managing Windows networks. The Networking Skills Certificate Program requires a total of 9 units. A grade of C or better is required in each course taken. At least one half of the units toward the certificate must be completed at Fullerton College.

Program Level Student Learning Outcome:

🗸 Demonstrate proficiency in one or more common networking software tools.

The Networking Certificate is designed to prepare students for a career using computer networks in business. Students receive hands-on instruction on how to operate, install, configure, troubleshoot, upgrade, and maintain computer networks as well as basic network security. A grade of C or better is required in each course taken. This certificate requires 16 units.

Program Student Learning Outcome:

🗸 Demonstrate proficiency in networking concepts to install and use network clients and design a network archiecture to support servers.

The Lighting Technician Certificate is designed to prepare the student for occupational competency as a Lighting Technician in educational, community and resident theatre venues as well as theme parks, television and motion picture studios. This certificate requires a total of 28-31 units. All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

🗸 Identify and explain the documentation required to implement the lighting for a theatrical production.

🗸 Operate and evaluate theatrical lighting equipment by participating in the practices of hanging, circuiting and focusing for actual productions.

🗸 Relate and explain the processes inherent in the theatrical lighting design process.

🗸 Identify, describe, and define terminology commonly associated with theatrical lighting.

🗸 Analyze and evaluate the lighting requirements of a play or musical.

🗸 Recognize and apply various methodologies to safely troubleshoot lighting, sound, rigging, scenic, and show control equipment.

The Landscape Irrigation Certificate Program requires a total of 30-31 units of which 18 units are in required courses. An additional 12-13 units must be chosen from the restricted units listed below, 6 units from Category A, and 6-7 units from Category B.
