The Certificate of Achievement program in Welding Technology is for those who desire advanced knowledge of welding for employment as welding technicians.

Program Outcomes

✓ Acquire the necessary skills training for proficiency in taking a welding qualification test for certification which may be required for employment.

✓ Improve or develop additional proficiencies required for professional growth or advancement in their current employment.

Advanced Manufacturing addresses the competencies required by technical, engineering, and management professionals working in industry where products are designed and developed, with specific emphasis on manufacturing and model making using Additive and Subtractive Manufacturing.

The program is designed to develop a solid educational foundation for graduates to work closely with engineers, designers, and professionals in multiple industries, using additive processes for product development, 3D visualization, art, entertainment, architecture, and medical modeling.  Automotive, aerospace, defense, medical devices, and green technology are the primary industries within the advanced manufacturing sector. Classroom work in project design is combined with learning laboratory experience utilizing project‐based learning. Students will gain valuable hands‐on experience using some of the most advanced equipment available.

Completion of this certificate, issued through the Business and Computing Division, will enable students to apply for entry-level positions in designing for the World Wide Web. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses. After completing the Web Design Certificate, students should be able to create Web pages in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Program Outcome

The UX Design Certificate is designed to prepare the student for an entry-level position in the UX/UI Design Industry. Students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to create original digital art used to integrate user research, and psychology, as well as, text, images, animation, video, and other content into effective user interface design. Students will create prototypes that explore, demonstrate, and verify the effectiveness of their design solutions for the Web, Apps, Watches, and/or other Interactive Design Products. Digital Media Arts and Design is an important sector of the economy and industry is eager to find qualified candidates who not only understand practical knowledge of UX/UI design principles, but also know how to collaborate with fellow designers, stakeholders, clients.

Program Outcomes

✓ Demonstrate skill in design utilizing industry-standard user experience design and visual design software.

✓ Design and create website and mobile app projects and prototypes, that demonstrate knowledge of design for different screens, user interface design, and best practices in typography, design and navigation.

✓ Create a portfolio utilizing a variety of design techniques for the purpose of gaining employment and/or acceptance to an Art College or University.

The program curriculum allows students to explore the entirety of unmanned aircraft systems. Courses highlight specific characteristics of different aircraft, how they are built, and the fundamentals of control and propulsion systems. Students will explore how unmanned aircraft systems integrate into the larger aviation systems, including safety policies, regulations, and automation procedures.

The program can be tailored to meet the needs of individual students without any prior unmanned aircraft systems operating experience. Upon completion of the program students will be prepared to become commercial FAA Part 107 Unmanned Aircraft Systems operators, technicians, and programmers, or photo/videographers in various industry sectors in a broad range of applications.

Program Outcome

✓ Students will develop the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for completion of UAS training and successful completion of federally administered knowledge examinations for remote pilot certification.

The Certificate of Completion in Tutoring Skills and Strategies program focuses on topics such as communication skills and Socratic Method, learning styles, diversity, learning disabilities, motivation, group tutoring and integrating study skills into content material. This program is intended for students wanting a job as a tutor in an education setting, private tutoring organization or as a private tutor.

Program Outcome

✓ Students who complete the program will have the skills necessary to gain employment in the OCC Student Success Center, as well as private tutoring organizations or as a private tutor.

These courses have been recommended by industry to provide essential preparation to sell, operate, supervise and manage within a travel agency or as an independent contractor of travel or home based agent. Courses have been organized to provide an understanding of techniques and knowledge necessary to develop effective leadership, decision-making skills, and successful communication among all departments contributing to positive, guest sales, and travel experiences.

Program Outcome

✓ The outcome of this certificate of achievement is to prepare students for employment with a retail or home-based agency, independent contractor, tour operator, cruise line, adventure company, receptive operator, or tourism/convention bureau.

Earning the Tooling certificate upgrades the skills of the machinist to the point required for profitable employment as an entry-level tool maker, a die maker, or a mold maker. As well as other subjects that must be learned by the beginning tool maker, the Tooling certificate program includes courses in metallurgy, tool and cutter grinding, and welding tooling.

Program Outcome

✓ Manufacture precision tooling for Dies, Molds, and Prototype tooling.

Prepares students for self-employment and work within small businesses in the landscape industry. Builds on their industry education in landscape design and construction. Expands their education in entrepreneurship and small business management. Contributes to the student’s financial independence, career success, and the world’s economy. Prepares them to work for others and after passing the state contractor’s examination, to own their own landscape construction business. The program is aligned with the California State License Board and completion of this program will help prepare students for the state exam.

Program Outcomes

✓ Certificate students will be able to understand the theory and practice of managing a landscape business, including knowledge of legalities, finance, operations, planning, safety, estimating, bidding, decision making and the application leadership and managerial skills in various organizational environments.

✓ Certificate students will be able to develop and implement a business plan by conducting research in the appropriate specialty area and identify the target market, competition, industry standards, and financial projections.

The Technical Design & Product Development Certificate of Achievement will provide students with core skills in pattern making, garment construction, fashion history, color theory, industry-specific computer programs, and sustainability. Students will also gain knowledge in directed skills related to production processes, intermediate clothing construction, computer-aided pattern making, and 3D design software. Upon completion, students will be prepared for entry-level employment in the fields of pattern making, sample-making, technical design, sourcing management, production management, quality control supervising, grading, marker making, costing/spec production, pre-production merchandising in the fashion industry, and related businesses.
