The Sustainable Design specialization certificate prepares students to engage in Environmental Design as a balance of natural and man-made systems and resources and will prepare students to pursue further studies and careers in Architecture, Environmental Design, Landscape Design, Planning, and Sustainable Design.

Program Outcome

✓ The Sustainable Design specialization certificate prepares students to design, develop, analyze, and promote sustainable environmental design practices. 

The Library Technician Certificate of Achievement prepares individuals for employment for entry-level staff positions such as library technician, library assistant, library specialist, circulation clerk, or library technical assistant in a variety of library settings. Emphasis is on effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, competent use of technology, and various library systems and operations related to day-to-day duties in a library setting.

The developmental and learning theory as well as appropriate strategies related to the unique care and education needs of children ages 0-36 months will be studied and applied. Family collaboration and relationship-based practices will be emphasized. This certificate prepares students to be competent and effective teachers and caregivers of infants and toddlers in a variety of home and center-based settings. It also meets the education requirements of the Teacher level of the Child Development Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Additional working experience with children is required to obtain the Permit.

The Social Media Strategist Certificate of Achievement is intended to prepare students for careers in which they will use social media to promote products, individuals, and organizations. Courses emphasize the skills and tools necessary to analyze, create, implement and evaluate social media. A "C" or better is required.

✓ Students will be able to function effectively in an entry-level social media marketing position using the skills, principles, and tools acquired.

Skills Enhancement for Consumer and Health Science Students offers students the opportunity to develop or enhance the specific written and computational skills required for program success. The courses that comprise the program are intended to be offered as either stand-alone prior to program start or within a particular program in order to promote student success.

Develop essential skills necessary for advancement or employment within a sales or marketing role in the hospitality, event, or meeting management industries.

✓ The outcome for the certificate of achievement is to prepare students for employment within the hospitality, travel, or tourism industries in a sales or marketing capacity.

Working with robots requires a specialized skill set. Students earning this certificate will be proficient in soldering, crimping, and mechanical assembly. Students will gain a working knowledge of control theory, become familiar with a wide range of sensors, and be able to write basic autonomous robot programs in C. Students will also be proficient in using electrical theory to calculate load and power requirements. This certificate is designed to provide the student with the electrical and systems knowledge required to successfully work on robotic systems at the technician level.

Program Outcomes

✓ Demonstrable ability to work with servos, motors, and stepper motors to power motion systems.

✓ Acquire familiarity with a variety of sensors and how to integrate them into a functional robot.

✓ Students will be able to use Ohm’s Law and fundamental electrical math to analyze circuits.

✓ Students will be able to program robots to conduct autonomous tasks using basic control theory. 

The Retrofitting California Urban Gardens Certificate of Specialization is designed to provide formal training for individuals interested in transforming the landscape into a water-wise sustainable garden. This program provides students with entry-level working knowledge of the skills and resources they will need to design various sustainable landscapes upon completion of the certificate.

Program Outcome

✓ Students will demonstrate areas of critical thinking, design, and visual communication for entry-level employment as a landscape/garden designers that will have a strong background in sustainability as well as the ability to pursue industry certificate

This program is approved by the Western Association of Food Chains and persons completing the prescribed courses are eligible to receive both the OCC Certificate of Achievement and the WAFC Retail Management Certificate.

This certificate prepares students for entry-level employment in residential electrical-related trades. The student will be able to wire electrical systems, understand code requirements, and interpret electrical blueprints.
