The Refrigeration Service certificate is a first-level minor certificate that will prepare students to begin a career in commercial and industrial refrigeration as a Refrigeration Technician. The skills gained in this program will give individuals the advantage in crowd of candidates applying for entry-level jobs. Completion of this program will prepare the candidate to be employed as a maintenance technician and work toward becoming a journeyman, while also continuing their studies to earn the next level major certificate.

Program Outcome

✓ Prepare students for entry-level employment as a Refrigeration Technician and for industry certifications.

This program is designed for those individuals interested in pursuing a career in real estate. Real Estate Salesperson license requirements: RE A110 Real Estate Principles and RE A130 Real Estate Practice are required courses, plus one other real estate elective. All three are required to take the state exam. Check with the California Department of Real Estate for any additional requirements and forms.

Students who complete the Real Estate-Broker Certificate of Achievement are equipped with immediately marketable skills and also the coursework necessary to sit for the California Real Estate Broker’s Examination.

Completion of this certificate, issued through the Business and Computing Division, will enable students to apply for entry-level positions in Python programming. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses. All courses must be completed at Orange Coast College.

Program Outcome

✓ Students who complete the program will be able to write programs in Python using classes, flow-of-control, and fundamental data structure.

The Family Childcare Certificate of Completion program prepares students to open and operate a Family Childcare Home (FCCH). Students will explore regulations for licensing, fiscal management strategies, and administrative tools for operating a FCCH. Introductory developmental and learning theory as well as appropriate curriculum strategies for the care and education of young children will be studied and applied. It is designed for both (1) students who are currently working in the field and (2) students who have an interest in working in the field.

This program will introduce students to health science, including personal health and public health. Students can choose from a variety of courses that will increase their knowledge and understanding of the biopsychosocial model of health, the determinants of health, and how to work towards reducing health disparities across communities. Students will be able to evaluate the burden of disease for a population and analyze global health issues for a social justice perspective. The impact of the environment, socio-economics, politics, and culture on health and health systems are also explored.

Curriculum includes career path identification and job search preparation in the maritime industry, maritime environment, seamanship, marine safety, boat handling, navigation, and boat maintenance. In addition to lecture, most courses include hands-on practical exercises.

Students must be able to swim 50 yards and tread water for 10 minutes. Previous boating experience is advantageous but not required. Facility fees will be charged.

This Certificate of Achievement is for students looking to acquire the basic skills necessary to begin a career as a stage manager in the broad-based field of live entertainment. Students learn the fundamentals of rehearsal procedures, union contracts, production organization, and performance procedures. In addition, students gain experience by participating in live productions at IVC’s Performing Arts Center. The program includes placement in an internship with local live entertainment companies. Students completing this certificate can pursue work as stage managers, assistant stage managers, and production assistants with employers such as regional theaters, theme parks, convention centers, concert producers, opera companies, dance companies, cruise ships, and cirque troupes. However, specific entry level employment opportunities may require additional education or experience. Some courses in this major require students to audition for placement or submit an application.
