The Professional Advancement - Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certificate of Achievement is ideal for students pursuing a career as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). Students who have completed coursework required by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board will have the opportunity to obtain essential training and clinical fieldwork experience for SLPA licensure through this program. Upon completion, students will be eligible to apply for licensure as a SLPA under the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board to practice under supervision of a fully licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). A SLPA collaborates with the SLP to provide screening procedures and administer direct treatment for individuals with speech and language disorders.

✓ Recipients of the Professional Advancement Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will demonstrate correct use of screening and treatment procedures for speech-language disorders.

✓ Recipients of the Professional Advancement Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will determine appropriate materials to be used in therapy for objectives targeted using appropriate stimuli, cues, prompts, and task-modification behaviors associated with the objectives.

✓ Recipients of the Professional Advancement Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will be able to implement techniques for reinforcement.

✓ Recipients of the Professional Advancement Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will demonstrate ability to carry out Speech-Language Pathologist directed plans per individual client needs in both 1-on-1 or group settings and document client progress.

Private pilot training is the entry point to the exciting world of aviation. Private pilots are licensed to fly for personal pleasure and enjoyment. This course of study meets the aeronautical knowledge requirements of Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 61.105.

Program Outcome

✓ Students will develop the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for completion of federally administered knowledge tests for private pilot certification.

This Certificate of Achievement is for students looking to acquire the basic skills necessary to begin a career in the broad-based field of live entertainment. Students learn the fundamentals of stage lighting, scenery construction, sound reinforcement, and rigging. In addition, students gain experience in rehearsal and performance procedures by participating in live productions at IVC’s Performing Arts Center. The program includes placement in an internship with local live entertainment companies. Students completing this certificate can pursue work as an entertainment technician with employers such as regional theaters, theme parks, convention centers, concert producers, opera companies, dance companies, cruise ships, and cirque troupes.

The Primary English Language Skills Certificate of Competency will serve a growing community of English learners with little to no knowledge of the Roman alphabet. It aims to give adult English learners literacy skills upon which they may begin to develop their English skills. 

Program Outcome

✓ Students will demonstrate the ability to recognize and produce basic literacy elements of English. 

This program provides students with the technical skills and systems analysis necessary for entry-level positions as Airframe and Powerplant Certificated Mechanics in the aviation industry, such as airframe inspection, powerplant inspection, maintenance, and return-to-flight status of all types of U.S. Certificated aircraft. This certificate would enable a student to achieve employment in local powerplant and propeller overhaul facilities and repair stations.

Program Outcomes

✓ Have the necessary skills and training for proficiency in taking written, oral and practical exams for Powerplant certification which may be required for employment.

✓ Be able to improve or develop additional proficiencies required for professional growth or advancement in their current employment. All qualification training and tests are prescribed and follow the guide of the Federal Aviation.

The Certificate of Competency for English as a Second Language is for students who can demonstrate basic English language skills such as participating in simple conversations, using every-day vocabulary, reading short articles, and writing grammatically correct sentences in short paragraphs.

Completion of this certificate will allow students to be more involved in their communities and possibly advance in their jobs; however, completion of this certificate alone is insufficient preparation for college-level certificates and degree-applicable coursework.

Students are placed into courses according to their English abilities and may test out of up to two courses. Courses may be offered days, evenings, and weekends during fall, spring and summer. There are no prerequisite skills or enrollment limitations although there is recommended preparation for some courses.

Foundational theories of children’s development and learning as well as appropriate strategies for teaching and caring for children ages birth to 8 will be studied and applied. Family collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and relationship-based practice will be emphasized. This certificate prepares students to provide competent and effective care and instruction of children in a variety of early childhood settings. It also meets the education requirements of the Teacher level of the Child Development Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Additional working experience with children is required to obtain the Permit.

A minimum grade of "C" in each course is required to receive the certificate and/or qualify for the Child Development Permit.

This certificate builds upon the introductory developmental and learning theory and appropriate strategies for the care and education of young children that are covered in the Associate Teacher Level I certificate. Level II adds the California priorities for teachers of young children to understand the unique needs of infants and toddlers and dual language learners. This certificate is designed to meet the coursework requirements for the Associate Teacher level of the Child Development Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and prepares students for entry level positions in a variety of early childhood care and education settings. Additional work with children is required to obtain the Associate Teacher Permit. A minimum grade of "C" in each course is required to receive the certificate and/or qualify for the Child Development Permit.

Introductory developmental and learning theory as well as appropriate strategies for the care and education of young children will be studied and applied. This certificate is designed to meet the coursework requirements for the Associate Teacher level of the Child Development Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and prepares students for entry level positions in a variety of early childhood care and education settings. Additional work with children (50 days of 3+ hours per day) is required to obtain the Associate Teacher Permit.

The Aging Studies Interdisciplinary Certificate focuses on the study of aging, the aging process, and working with older adults in a variety of capacities. Sociological, psychological, and biological aspects of aging are explored. This certificate aims to educate individuals about the field of aging, while also allowing them to complete coursework in other associated areas of interest. The goal of the certificate is to primarily equip students who are working toward completing (or have completed) related certificates, degrees, or programs, and/or work in the field of aging with foundational knowledge in gerontology. The interdisciplinary certificate allows students to choose elective courses that match pathways that fit within their current area of study. Career opportunities may include: business, marketing, environmental design, nutrition, nursing, medical assisting, health, wellness, recreation, fitness, food services/preparation, human services, senior communities, home health care, caregiving, and travel/tourism. Additional certification, degrees, and/or training may be required for the fields listed depending on the employer and occupation.
