The Professional Advancement - Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certificate of Achievement is ideal for students pursuing a career as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). Students who have completed coursework required by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board will have the opportunity to obtain essential training and clinical fieldwork experience for SLPA licensure through this program. Upon completion, students will be eligible to apply for licensure as a SLPA under the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board to practice under supervision of a fully licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). A SLPA collaborates with the SLP to provide screening procedures and administer direct treatment for individuals with speech and language disorders.

Students learn the fundamentals of stage lighting, scenery construction, sound reinforcement, and rigging. The program includes placement in an internship with local live entertainment companies. This certificate would enable a student to achieve employment in local powerplant and propeller overhaul facilities and repair stations.

The Certificate of Competency for English as a Second Language is for students who can demonstrate basic English language skills such as participating in simple conversations, using every-day vocabulary, reading short articles, and writing grammatically correct sentences in short paragraphs.


Completion of this certificate will allow students to be more involved in their communities and possibly advance in their jobs; however, completion of this certificate alone is insufficient preparation for college-level certificates and degree-applicable coursework.


Students are placed into courses according to their English abilities and may test out of up to two courses. Courses may be offered days, evenings, and weekends during fall, spring and summer. There are no prerequisite skills or enrollment limitations although there is recommended preparation for some courses.
