This certificate, issued through the Graduation Office provides students with basic accounting and computer accounting coursework focusing on data analytics. Students are required to obtain a grade of “C” or better in all required courses at OCC.

The Aquatics Specialist Certificate: The primary emphasis is to prepare the student for occupational competency in swimming instruction as recommended by the state of California and the American Red Cross. Coursework in KIN 235 C, KIN 255 C, and KIN 256 C may use credit for prior learning approval based on current Red Cross certification in First Aid and CPR, Life Guarding and Water Safety Instruction at the discretion of the division. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 16-17 units.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

OUTCOME 1: Acquire workforce preparation skills, including advanced lifesaving techniques and water safety, to become a certified lifeguard.

This program is designed for students who wish to pursue advanced studies in their chosen foreign language. Students who complete this certificate will acquire intermediate to advanced reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills that enable them to communicate effectively in the target language in various academic and professional settings. They will have also successfully completed elementary and intermediate coursework in the target language, all of which fulfill the lower-division transfer and degree course requirements at CSU and UC. These two elements demonstrate an important milestone along the student's pathway to a foreign language degree, certificate or transfer. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of C or better. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 18-20 units. 

This program is designed for students seeking to learn a foreign language and expand their communicative abilities. Learning a foreign language enables students to make connections between cultures and languages, and thereby gain an understanding of the importance of nuance in all types of communication. Such knowledge is acquired by putting into practice the linguistic and sociocultural competence they would gain from our program's courses. Studecynts completing our program are better equipped to navigate the challenges of our multilingual and multicultural society. Completion of this certificate additionally provides the academic basis for further study at the intermediate level and is an initial milestone along the student's pathway to certificates, degrees, or transfer. This Certificate of Competency is a noncredit program designed for those interested in developing greater competency in the skills needed to be proficient writers. It is designed to give students an academic foundation in English reading comprehension and writing skills. Students will explore different types of academic writing, build academic vocabulary, strengthen academic reading comprehension, learn strategies to improve academic writing, and develop stronger overall reading and writing skills. Skills developed to focus on those necessary to successfully pass college-level English, including grammar, reading, and paragraph writing. Special emphasis on the development of students who have confidence in writing college-level essays.

Program Outcomes

✓ Students will demonstrate essay writing skills in support of college-level coursework and produce academic writing that follows proper format and standard English grammatical rules.

✓ Students will demonstrate command of reading strategies for reading academic texts.

The Global Citizenship Studies Certificate: As a result of completing this certificate program, students will be able to: 1. Describe key developments in the ongoing processes of globalization, climate change, mono-culturalization, decreasing biodiversity and ongoing social injustices and inequities 2. Analyze the concepts of global and local interdependence with reference to United Nations policies and documents 3. Critically consider and connect political, economic, cultural and ecological challenges as discussed in contemporary news and social media venues 4. Examine and practice strategies for resolution. This certificate requires a total of 21 units.

The Victimology Certificate explores the costs of victimization in our society today and the variety of methods, current and proposed, for dealing with the issues. Courses provide an in-depth examination of both the victim and the perpetrator. Resources for victims of violent and non-violent crimes are discussed and professionals present various points of view. The Gerontology Certificate is a collection of interdisciplinary courses that prepare students to bring expertise, intervention skills and understanding about the aging adult to work and to family settings. Older adult development, and adaptive and maladaptive behaviors of the normal aging process are explored. Emphasis will be placed on critical life issues such as health, mental health, care giving, social support, living arrangements, work and retirement, and human service resources. Death and dying, and the ethical issues that often occur during the last years of life will be examined. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of “C”.
