The Family Studies Certificate is designed as a more complete examination of the many individual and family needs resulting from changing family patterns. Needed skills include parenting in a variety of family situations, communicating in healthy relationships, caregiving in intergenerational families and coping with stress. This program prepares the student in three ways: (1) Providing courses as personal enrichment for the families and individuals in the community (2) Training Human Service workers for employment in schools, health and mental health agencies, rehabilitation centers, halfway houses, senior centers and as support persons to law enforcement and other community agencies (3) Providing the first two years of courses for Family Studies professions such as therapist and administrator which require further college education. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of “C”. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College

The Criminal Justice Certificate program will prepare students to work with Human Service agencies that provide services to clients coming from the criminal justice system. Students will examine the skill requirements, the major tasks and responsibilities, the role and function of the service provider in jails, penal institutions, police departments, juvenile justice agencies and the Department of Corrections. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of “C”. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College.

The Conflict Resolution Certificate offers those entering or working in human services the opportunity to examine and practice a variety of communication skills useful in the resolution of conflict. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50% of all course work must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 15 units.

The Addiction Studies Certificate will prepare students to work with Human Services Agencies that provide services to clients in the area of substance abuse issues regarding issues from abuse to addiction. Students will examine the requirements, major tasks and responsibilities, including the role and function of halfway homes, substance abuse recovery centers and sober living sites in the State of California. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of “C”. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College.

The Hotel Fundamentals Certificate provides students with an opportunity to obtain the foundational skills and practical knowledge for pursuing an entry-level career in hotel operations. Students completing this certificate will develop an understanding of hotel front office operations, revenue management, housekeeping, engineering, food and beverage, loss prevention, guest relations, and sales and marketing. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of C. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 15 units.

The Hospitality Management Certificate offers coursework in lodging operations, revenue management, food and beverage management, event management, purchasing, law, cost control, human resources, sales and marketing and brand management. Coursework emphasizes the role of guest services, effective oral and written communication skills, teamwork, management and leadership strategies, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and exploring industry trends and best practices. Students will prepare for careers in the dynamic hospitality industry. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 35 units.

This certificate requires a total of 24 units.

The Food and Beverage Fundamentals Certificate (formerly Food Service Fundamentals Certificate) provides students with an opportunity to obtain the foundational skills and practical knowledge for pursuing an entry-level career in the diverse food and beverage industry. Students completing this certificate will develop an understanding of the role of sanitation and safety, culinary fundamentals, purchasing, beverage management and cost control in food service operations. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of C. At least 50% of all course work must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 17 units.

This skill certificate provides students with entry-level skills and knowledge to transition into this rapidly growing field. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of C. At least 50% of all course work must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 18 units.
