The Administration of Local Anesthesia, Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen Analgesia and Periodontal Soft Tissue Curettage Certificate offers a curriculum that provides the student with the appropriate academic instruction to achieve eligibility for the National Board of Dental Hygiene Examiners written examination, and the Western Regional Examining Board Examination (WREB) for licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist, qualifying the candidate as stipulated in the California Dental Practice Act. A Certificate of Completion shall be issued “Certification in Administration of Local Anesthesia, Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen Analgesia and Periodontal Soft Tissue Curettage (SLN) after a student has achieved clinical competency of the three procedures. The Dental Hygiene Board of California set forth the requirements and the California Code of Regulations. 16 CCR 1107.
 

A student who completes the Dental Hygiene program will be able to:

✓ Attain the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to qualify to take the examinations for licensure as a Registered Dental 
Hygienist, and a professional member of the allied health team.

The Dental Assisting Certificate is designed to enable a student to receive a certificate of Dental Assisting. To earn a certificate, students must complete the required course as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 31.5 units.

Students who complete the Dental Assisting program will be able to:

✓ Demonstrate the academic knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to qualify for both the National Certification Exam and the California State Registered Dental Assistant Exam.

✓ Demonstrate the knowledge necessary for the ethical, legal and competent practice of dental assisting.

✓ Perform the functions approved by the California Dental Practice Act for a Dental Assistant and a Registered Dental Assistant, including infection control, with competence and judgment.

✓ Demonstrate clinical competency in dental radiology, coronal polish and dental sealants.

✓ Prepared for employment as a dental assistant and as an integral member of the dental team.

The Dance Teaching Certificate is designed to prepare the student to teach dance at private dance studios and community centers. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 18 units.
 

The Proofreading Certificate provides the student with the necessary knowledge, skills, and background to work in the field of court reporting as a proofreader. To earn a certificate, a student must complete the required courses as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50 percent of all course work must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 20 units.  

This NON-CREDIT Practicum in Intermediate Machine Shorthand Certificate will prepare students for future employment in CART and hearing reporting.

This NON-CREDIT Practicum in Beginning Machine Shorthand Certificate will allow students who are interested in employment in law offices, general offices, government offices, and other venues to acquire entry-level skills to perform simple dictation tasks.

The Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate prepares the student to work in a variety of venues related to the legal profession including positions as a legal administrative assistant in a law office, or in the court system, and in a variety of other legal settings. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50% of all coursework must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 19 units.

The Law Office Administration Associate in Science Degree prepares the student for a career in the legal arena. The curriculum is designed to develop a working knowledge of the legal field. To earn an Associate Degree students must complete (1) all major course requirements with a grade of C or better, (2) Cypress College Native General Education requirements; California State University General Education Breadth requirements (CSU GE Breadth) or IGETC General Education requirements; (3) the cultural diversity and reading requirements; (4) any elective course to complete a minimum of 60 units; and (5) have a minimum GPA of 2.0. At least 50 percent of all major course work must be completed at Cypress College. This degree requires a total of 26.5 units in the major, in addition to other degree requirements.

The Hearing Reporter Certificate provides the student with the necessary knowledge, skills, and background to work in the field of convention reporting, hearing reporting, police department reporting, congressional reporting, and related fields. To earn a certificate, the required courses as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50% of all course work must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 25 units.

This NON-CREDIT CSR-RPR Skills Certificate, Certified Shorthand Reporter-Registered Professional Reporter (CSR-RPR) Skills, will prepare the student to take and pass the National Court Reporter's Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) examination and the California Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) examination.
