This certificate focuses on enhancing the academic development and training of health and human service professionals to provide culturally and linguistically relevant care and education for the Latino population through their respective job placements. The certificate is comprised of 12 units. Components of the program include analysis of the health status and access issues affecting Latinos, development of culturally and linguistically relevant interventions, and implementation of chronic disease prevention best practices and community-based participatory research. The certificate incorporates a thorough overview of Latino health from early childhood development to the multiple chronic diseases that continue to impact this population.

The CSI Certificate Program is a hands-on course taught by professionals currently working in the field and modeled after the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Field Evidence Technician Course (FET). This course is designed to prepare the student for a career as a Crime Scene Investigator and qualified students will be eligible for internship opportunities with local agencies. It is endorsed by the Los Angeles County Forensic Supervisors Group.

The Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) Certificate program is a combined curriculum consisting of (80) hours of crime scene investigation training modules.  This training will provide both the skills and knowledge of crime scene investigation, forensic analysis, and utilizes a “hands-on” application of crime scene investigative techniques both in the classroom and in mock simulations.  This program is designed to give the student an overview of crime scene investigations and upon completion of this course will assist students in meeting the minimum requirements for this profession.

This program is based on the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Field Evidence Technician Program (FET) given to working peace officers and crime scene investigators. This course is designed to prepare students for a career as a Crime Scene Investigator.

CSULB is one of 10 CSU schools that offers an undergraduate certificate in Gerontology. The certificate is a 24-unit, upper-division program that addresses the interdisciplinary nature of the Gerontology field with required courses from Anthropology, Psychology or Human Development, and elective choices from departments across campus. Students from ANY major are eligible to add the certificate to their program of study. After the Gerontology certificate you will be able to:

1. Apply gerontology concepts and principles within your field of study
2. Initiate techniques to dispel ageism within your field of study
3. Apply theories of adult growth and development, biological changes with aging, and culture and aging within your field of study

Apply concepts and skills related to aging in field experiences with older adults and families

Open to all majors except those with or seeking a B.S. Engineering Technology, Option in Technology and Engineering Education. The certificate is conferred as a post-baccalaureate certificate or concurrently with the BS/BA degree.

This certificate will prepare students to work with a variety of technologies including computers and related technologies and the proper setup and operation of equipment along with valuable troubleshooting skills. Students will gain an understanding of the system design process and learn to acquire and evaluate information from the Internet and to communicate information via the internet including ethical issues. They will learn to create a robust, usable, and accessible website.

Please be aware that this program is not eligible for Financial Aid unless pursued concurrently with a degree program.

The Biomedical Illustration Prep Certificate is an interdisciplinary program sponsored by the School of Art and the Department of Biological Sciences.

Biomedical illustration and animation are commissioned by a wide range of clients that include medical institutions and universities, biomedical and pharmaceutical companies, publishers, physicians, natural history museums, and legal firms, among others.

Artists working in this field can pursue projects on a freelance basis or apply for employment with an agency or institution. The certificate prepares students to enter the field in a freelance capacity and also gives them a good foundation to continue on to an advanced degree program in medical illustration. (This certificate is not the equivalent of a graduate-level degree, which is required for many staff positions).

In cooperation with the Depratment of English, Comparative Literature and Linguistics, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers an Undergraduate TESOL Professional Certificate for its undergraduate foreign language majors. The 18-unit program offers an option for French, Japanese and Spanish majors to complement their studies of language, linguistics and literature with an additional professional certification to teach English as a second or additional language, focusing on developing academic English language in school-aged children and youth in the U.S. and abroad. Students from other majors at CSUF may also participate.

In cooperation with the Department of English and Linguistics Programs, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers a Certificate for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The program consists of 24 units. To participate in the program, students must declare the TESOL Certificate along with their degree objective.

A collaboration between the Department of Moderna Languages and Literatures and Department of Communications, the Spanish for Hispanic Media certificate is for students interested in increasing their fluency in Spanish and in expanding their understanding of the cultural practices and representations of Spanish media audiences.

The curriculum for the Resource Specialist Certificate of Competency is designed to prepare candidates, who have approved entry-level skills and professional preparation, to assume the role as resource specialists in programs serving special education students. The program meets the competencies set forth by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing as well as additional standards deemed appropriate by the faculty of the Department of Special Education, other university personnel and community advisory board members. Students desiring this certificate without enrolling for a degree or credential should apply for admission to the university as post-baccalaureate with a Resource Specialist objective.

The Radio-Audio Certificate provides students with experience and insight in the realm of radio broadcasting and digital audio recording/podcasting. Courses cover radio-audio news, entertainment, equipment use and general industry operations.
