The Help Desk User Support Certificate of Achievement is the second stage of the statewide IT Technician pathway and prepares students to further develop their IT Technician Skills. While completing the network and server security coursework, students gain practical experience as they learn how to use Help Desk software. As students complete coursework, they are encouraged to complete the aligned industry-valued certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Server, and Microsoft Desktop. Students who have completed Stage 1 of the IT Technician pathway along with this stage are prepared for positions such as Computer User Support Specialists, Computer Network Support Specialists, and IT retail supervisory positions.

The IT Technician Pathway: Stage I Computer Retail Sales and Support Certificate of Achievement is the first stage of the statewide IT Technician pathway and prepares students to develop their fundamental IT Technician Skills. While completing coursework in customer service, communication, Microsoft Office, and information systems coursework, along with earning the CompTIA A+ industry certification, students gain practical experience as they learn how to succeed in an IT retail environment.

The Cyber Security Skill Certificate is designed to give essential skills in protecting computers and networks, devices, and programs from cyberattacks.

The Cloud Computing Certificate of Achievement provides the student with industry-standard skills to understand and develop applications for the cloud. Students will learn a range of topics that cover the technical principles of the hardware and software requirements to run systems in the cloud, including storage, database management and software systems while maintaining secure access.

An Administrative Medical Assistant is a front-office professional who performs clerical work in doctors’ and hospital offices. These professionals are responsible for multiple tasks that include communicating with patients for case histories, scheduling appointments, electronic medical coding, filing insurance claims, updating and maintaining records, as well as processing insurance claims for receivable and payable accounts and maintaining financial records. In addition, administrative medical assistants collaborate with doctors and nurses to help with medical examinations, schedule tests and order supplies, ensure compliance with procedures, and keep up-to-date with changes in medical and insurance legislation.

Students learn proven work experience as a medical administrative assistant, which includes hands-on experience with medical software and MS Office, knowledge of healthcare operations, familiarity with medical and insurance legislation, excellent organizational and multitasking skills, and customer-oriented communication skills. An externship with local medical facilities will provide students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, reinforcing classroom content into real-world applications.

The Commercial Music certificate of achievement is designed so that upon completion the student will be equipped with the necessary technical skills to be employed as a professional in the field of Commercial Music Technology, Film Scoring, Video Game/ Audio Development, Music Business Entrepreneurship, Audio Forensics, and other Digital and Multi-Media Entertainment and Serious industries, involving music, audio and/or video.

The demand for certified music/audio technicians is extremely high for the California region due to the fast-growing multi-billion dollar entertainment multi-media industry. This also includes such sectors as mobile phone entertainment, motion picture animation (Foley), and video games to name a few. A Certificate of Achievement will be granted upon completion of all program requirements. MUSI 182, MUSI 284, and MUSI 285 must be completed at Compton College.

The Computer Systems Applications certificate of achievement is intended for students interested in information systems and can lead to career opportunities as software specialists, web programmers, database developers, systems analysts or network administrators. The variety of courses will enable students to learn project management, perform systems analysis and design, create business software including websites, desktop applications, and mobile apps, manage business data using spreadsheets and databases, implement cybersecurity measures, handle help desk incident reports, and install and maintain small and large LANs (local area networks). Students will demonstrate their proficiency through performance in laboratory exercises and objective examinations. Program assessment is measured by program completion and periodic program review.

Students completing the IT Technician: Support Specialist Certificate of Achievement will:
