Design principles, complex animation and CAD systems are applied to problems in architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning. Proper and efficient methods of sketching, producing documents, models, 3D digital models, animations and multifaceted presentations are examined.

This certificate prepares the student for entry-level opportunities as a CAD person or design person.

Certificate of Achievement Level Student Learning Outcomes

Students completing the Architectural Design Certificate of Achievement will:

- Describe effective architectural design principle techniques including graphic communication, orientation, and decision-making.

- Demonstrate the ability to use advanced technology to prepare architectural design drawings, Computer Aided Drawings (CAD), animations and multimedia presentations.

- Demonstrate complex planning techniques and administration of document control for architectural designs, presentations and animations.

- Demonstrate the ability to estimate time, material, labor and equipment for sophisticated architectural designs, presentations and animations.

The Cloud Computing program prepares students to design solutions for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) architectures by provisioning computing instances, establishing virtual private networks, and managing databases and storage within a secure online environment. Students produce dynamic solutions responsive to information and computing technology workloads with on-demand pay-as-you-go pricing allowing flexibility for small business, entrepreneurship, and enterprise adoption. Industry certifications are embedded to prepare for occupations such as Cloud Architect, Cloud Support Associate, Cloud Engineer, or Cloud Technician. Some preparation in information technology or computer programming is recommended.

The Computer and Information Sciences Department offers programs that prepare students to meet the challenges of the Information Technology (IT) industry as well as transfer to a four-year college or university.

We have programs to prepare you to work as a software developer, systems analyst, systems administrator/operator, networking technician, database administrator, and website/page designer.

This program is designed for people interested in career advancement and employment within the hotel and restaurant industry. The program combines theory and practical application of skills and abilities to meet the needs of employers.

This program offers students educational and practical experience. Partnerships with industry leaders offer excellent connections to local businesses and employment opportunities for students. The work experience component of the program provides resume-building experience. The program takes a hands-on approach as students work in an actual production kitchen and operate the Cerritos College Cafe.

Theory and application of computer numerical control (CNC) machining practices using mills and lathes typical in a wide range of industries. Designed to adapt and upgrade machining skills to industry standards and encourage the development of supplemental skills in computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacture (CAM), metrology, and problem-solving to better address the current needs and expectations of the industry. Includes project models that closely approximate industry-representative applications with an emphasis on best practices, efficiency, and an understanding of the way machined parts relate to other related components in the manufacturing environment.

Provides students with the most current two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) skills required in the manufacturing, design, and engineering disciplines. These skills also provide a platform for students to learn, understand, and build other related skills such as drafting, mechanical design, part inspection and computer-aided machining (CAM) software, which requires input from a CAD system, and is required to operate a computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools

This certificate provides a foundation of basic skills for employment in a variety of entry-level manufacturing positions.

This program is designed to prepare the student for a career in a wide range of industries including product and industrial design firms and fabrication and manufacturing companies. Students are introduced to product development from design through prototyping and fabrication for manufacturing. Portfolio or prototype development is required on each of the semester levels. In the Level Three certificate, this will culminate in a final “senior project,” which is a portfolio that includes two and three-dimensional design, documentation (accountability measures), presentation, and fabrication. This project will demonstrate the student’s mastery of the concepts and methodologies learned during the program.

This intermediate certificate is intended to continue preparing students for employment in the engineering and construction field. An understanding of building materials and architectural specifications in construction, building and zoning codes, permits, and architectural CAD and BIM will be developed. These skills are critical for direct employment in the fields of construction, general or civil engineering technology, building inspection and construction management. Students desiring a Bachelor’s Degree (transfer program) should consult with a counselor or advisor to discuss the transferability of courses.

Word is offered on Monday; Excel is offered on Thursday; In each course, you will start the semester with the basics (such as the ribbon, using help, promoting and demoting lists in Word, creating simple formulas in Excel, etc. These are great classes for career and academic-minded students. These skills will make you more competitive in the job market.
