This course prepares students for employment in health-related fields. Students will develop their ability to understand the language of medicine through word building, analysis of terms, pronunciation, and spelling. The course includes basic anatomy, pathology, and diagnostic procedures as well as the language used in medical professions.
By practicing breaking down and building medical terminology, students will build skills for understanding medical words that they will use throughout the course. This course covers terms pertaining to anatomy and physiology as well as the study of diseases and their treatments in the following areas of medicine: cardiovascular, respiratory, hematopoietic (blood), lymphatic and immune, female and male reproductive, and, lastly, the digestive system. Knowledge and confidence gained in this course will be useful as students further their studies and also in making daily health and wellness choices
This course is a prerequisite for the Medical Interpreter course.
Students will engage with the teacher and fellow students over Zoom. Students will be expected to work on homework between classes and pass assessments in order to receive credit for this class.
