Medical Interpreter is the capstone course for the Healthcare Certificate Program. This 50-hour course provides qualified bilingual students with the skills required to deliver accurate and complete interpretation in a healthcare setting. The curriculum is based on the National Standards for Health Care Interpreting Training Programs.

 

This course is designed to train bilingual and bicultural students to develop the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary for effective oral language interpretation in healthcare settings. This course is taught in English.

 

Students will learn the roles and responsibilities of a healthcare interpreter, basic knowledge of common medical conditions, treatments, and procedures, insight into the language and cultural nuances for specific communities, and application of interpreting skills in English and the native language of service.

Certification is given upon passing a written and skills test administered by the Red Cross. Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate Program

Students will receive training on foundational nursing skills within the framework of patient-centered care. Students will learn how to work closely with patients and be responsible for basic care services such as bathing, grooming, and feeding patients; assisting nurses with medical equipment; and checking patient vital signs. Students will learn how to give patients important social and emotional support and also provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses. You may work in hospitals, nursing care facilities, or community care facilities for the elderly.

 

This teacher-led class will be in-person for the Theory portion of 75 hours and in-person for the Clinical portion of 100 hours. Strict attendance and completion requirements exist for this course as required by state certification rules. Students will be expected to access materials, take tests and submit assignments through an online platform. Students will also need to have a computer at home with reliable internet access.

 

Upon successful completion of the program, students will take the State Certified Nurse Assistant examination through a third-party testing service. This test will have a written and a skills performance component.

The Mt. SAC Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology program prepares students for a high-paying career in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration through a two-year associate of science degree or a certificate that leads to occupations in design, manufacturing, operations, sales, distribution, installation, maintenance and repair.


Students gain valuable classroom knowledge and hands-on experience in troubleshooting refrigerant handling, welding, mechanical and electrical operation, as well as building automation. Classes are offered on days and evenings and are structured to give students the opportunity to seek industry employment in as little as one academic year.
