The accounting curriculum focuses on preparing students to transfer to four-year institutions, sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and seek employment. Career Opportunities

Accounting programs prepare students for work as accountants, examining and preparing financial records for private industry, government agencies, individuals, and non-profit entities. General accountants use computers to record transactions, such as receivables, payables, payroll, and property into a general ledger. Corporate accountants set up and design accounting systems and procedures, and risk management programs and analyze and evaluate financial records for businesses. Their duties include ensuring legal compliance, interpreting financial information, and preparing reports for business executives and government regulatory agencies. Advancement includes opportunities as a senior accountant, controller, treasurer, and chief financial officer. Certified Public Accountants and Certified Management Accountants are those who have attained professional certification by the state.

The CNC Machine Operator certificate of achievement aims to provide basic to advanced training in manual or conventional machining, computer numerical programming and operation, and advanced multi-axis programming and operation. These form the fundamental skills necessary for the average and expected workload in the machining industry. Enrolled students are strongly positioned for employment in the machining industry throughout the course of the program.

Courses in Health Occupations are designed for students who wish to enter one of the many health career programs in the Los Angeles Community College District and/ or prepare for a job in a related healthcare position in the Los Angeles area. These courses serve as the foundational knowledge base to enter the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Certified Home Health Aide (HHA) courses and to achieve Certificates of Achievement in each. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate prepares students for a career in an area with a high demand for employment.

The CNA provides basic nursing care for patients in hospitals, assisted living, or long-term care. The CNA course consists of both classroom and clinical experiences. The course covers basic theory and skills such as patient rights, interpersonal skills, infection control, emergencies, body mechanics, patient care skills and procedures, vital signs, nutrition, observation and charting, long-term care, and rehabilitation. The program is approved by the California Department of Public Health. Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to apply to take the state of California certification examination for CNA.

Program length: 10 weeks

The Paralegal Studies certificate of achievement is an option for students who hold a degree of A.A., A.S., or higher degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution. The course of study is comprised of paralegal-specific and paralegal-related classes. The combination of courses produces a professional and competent paralegal. Although ENGLISH 101 is a co-requisite for LAW 010, Introduction to Legal Assistant I, it is expected that a degree holder would have satisfied this requirement during their previous course of study. The certificate is not intended to prepare a student for transfer to a four-year college or university
