The Certificate of Achievement in Spanish is designed for students who wish to gain a command of the Spanish language and understand the complex interdependence of the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. This certificate is applicable to students who are planning to pursue a Spanish major or minor at a four-year college or university. This certificate is also appropriate for students who are currently employed or seeking employment in an area involving the use of Spanish. Students who successfully complete this certificate will be able to use the target language to communicate with Spanish-speaking colleagues or customers. Students could include the Certificate on their resume and in a portfolio, indicating a conversational level of Spanish language proficiency.

The Las Positas College Technical Theater Certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level occupations as theater technicians in educational, community, and resident theater venues. Technical theater technicians may work on set construction, carpentry, sound systems, lighting design, light board operation, stage lighting, scenery costumes, props, and various degrees of entry-level management positions, such as hours management and stage management. This program is designed to prepare individuals who work in technical production areas with a range of skills, enabling them to select, adapt and transfer skills to different work situations throughout their careers in technical theater. This program prepares students, through coursework and hands-on experience, for work in technical theater. The certificate includes a wide range of topics designed to give students basic skills and knowledge to work behind the scenes in theater and other venues. This certificate can also serve as the first step in completing the Theater Associates Degree for Transfer (AD-T) to a four-year college or university, where students can complete a degree in a specialized or generalized field of theatrical study. Typical job opportunities include lighting designer, lighting operator, scenic painter, stage/set designer, stage manager, sound operator, costume designer, or stagehand.

   - Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Technical Theater, students are able to perform as a member of a show running crew in various capacities, such as stagehand, light or sound board operator, or wardrobe assistant.

The Editorial Management and Design certificate combines editorial content with aspects of creative design techniques. Students will be well versed in the creation of eye-catching page designs for newspapers and magazines.

The Data Journalism certificate combines aspects of information gathering and news/feature writing techniques which include finding, collecting and analyzing data for storytelling and investigative reporting. Students will be well-versed in the creation of news and feature stories for publication in various media outlets. Students may be able to obtain jobs as data journalist, news reporter, and feature writer.

The Musical Theater certificate provides training in the theories and practices of performing in musicals. The program is designed to provide knowledge and practical experience in acting, singing, movement and dance, preparing students to perform in community, amateur and professional productions of musical theater. Students are required to audition for at least one Musical Theater production (THEA 57).
