The ESL Beginning High Oral Communication Skills Certificate provides the opportunity for students to develop high-beginning
speaking skills to engage in social interactions on familiar topics in order to expand their ability to participate in the community, continue their education, and pursue employment opportunities. It provides students, prospective employers, and others with documented evidence of persistence and accomplishment in English oral communication.

The ESL Beginning High Focus Skills Certificate provides the opportunity for students to develop high-beginning English skills with an emphasis on a chosen skill area such as reading, writing, speaking and listening, or computer skills for learning English. It prepares students for expanded community participation, further study, and entry-level work. It provides students, prospective employers, and others with documented evidence of persistence and accomplishment in English skills.

The ESL and Math Milestone Certificate of Achievement prepares English language learners for the academic rigor of Mathematics
coursework. It provides students and institutions with documented evidence of persistence and academic achievement in the English
language and the communication and quantitative reasoning skills necessary for transfer to a four-year institution.

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

• Analyze and interpret college-level oral and written texts in English, using a range of strategies and critical thinking skills at an advanced level
• Produce accurate written English, employing a variety of language structures and forms
• Produce intelligible and accurate spoken English
• Apply quantitative reasoning skills to identify and analyze formulas, numerical, and/or statistical data
 

The ESL and Child Development Milestone Certificate is designed as an on-ramp to prepare English language learners for the academic rigor of degree-applicable coursework in child development. It provides students, employers, and others with documented evidence of persistence and academic accomplishment in English and success in introductory coursework in child development. These two elements combine to demonstrate significant achievement of a milestone along students’ pathways to child development certificates and degrees.

This program provides the opportunity for the development of basic entry-level skills necessary for employment in a clinical/medical office environment. In a rapidly growing profession, medical assistants work directly with physicians and other health care personnel as team members in providing patient services. Medical assistants perform a variety of clinical, laboratory, and administrative functions in physicians’ offices, medical clinics, laboratories, and specific hospital departments.

The program is offered only at the Indian Valley Campus. Students may elect to complete an Associate in Science degree, or a Certificate of Achievement: Administrative and Clinical, Administrative, or Clinical. The Certificate of Achievement options require a minimum of two semesters to complete. Students may take courses on a part-time basis.

The Certificate of Achievement is awarded for completion of the program requirements as shown in following list. Please note that program courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

communication skills and success in introductory coursework in business.
