The purpose of the certificate of achievement in Digital Film Production at Contra Costa College is to prepare students for entry-level employment in the media production industry. Students who successfully complete the certificate requirements will acquire skills in production planning, storyboarding and scriptwriting, camera operations, audio production, lighting, digital editing, and motion graphics.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Students who complete the program will be able to:

- Organize, schedule, budget, and manage a short film production through all phases of the production process (pre-production, production, post-production).

- Demonstrate a basic proficiency in the use and operation of digital film production equipment including cameras, sound, grip, and lighting gear.

- Demonstrate an understanding of day-to-day workflow and operations on a film set.

- Organize and edit a finished digital film project utilizing computer post-production software.

- Write professionally formatted synopses and scripts for various types of media including film, multimedia/Web and television.

- Create a professional portfolio reel to use in seeking employment.

The Certificate of Achievement in African American Studies provides an introduction to the Black/African American experience in the United States. The certificate provides students with the theoretical and methodological tools to understand and analyze the complex experience of Black/ African Americans in the United States. It is designed for students who wish to pursue a specialization in Africana/African American/Black studies and for professionals in the public, private, and nonprofit sector and/or who work with or wish to learn about Black/African American communities and experiences in the United States to further their career goals.

To earn a certificate of accomplishment, students must complete each course used to meet a certificate requirement with a “C” grade or higher and maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher in the coursework required for the certificate.

- identify common electrical circuit components and their use.

- solve AC and DC circuits for voltage, current, resistance, power, and other parameters.

- operate and understand common laboratory instruments used in the analysis, construction, and troubleshooting of AC and DC circuits.

- apply specific sections of the national electrical code to electrical systems.

This program prepares students for jobs installing, repairing, maintaining and servicing electrical and electronics equipment. Electrical/electronics jobs are found in the fields of electrical, medical, industrial, commercial systems, programmable logic controller systems, automotive, communications and others. The following courses are part of the Electricians Trainee Program and approved by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards: ELECT-120, 121, 130, 220, 230, 266, 267, 271, ELTRN-210 and CNT-103.

The Homeland Security Certificate of Achievement is designed to give students an up-to-date overview of the issues in Homeland Security, with an emphasis on the role of first responders. Using an “all-hazards” perspective, this certificate will help prepare students for public or private sector employment in Homeland Security and related areas, such as transportation security officers, program analysts, intelligence researchers, criminal investigators, and border patrol agents. Veterans with a background in homeland security-related issues are encouraged to consider this program as a way to leverage military experience into civilian employment.

This program is designed to prepare students for employment or career advancement in fire protection jobs. It may be of particular interest to students with existing degrees looking to change careers. It is also available for persons who do not want to complete the general education requirements for graduation.

A liberal arts education is designed to help students develop a breadth of knowledge in the disciplines of humanities, the physical and social sciences, and mathematics. An Associate in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts provides students with strong critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills. In addition, this degree provides students with the lower division coursework needed to transfer to and succeed in a four-year college or university.

These courses emphasize the development of strong critical thinking skills and analytical abilities necessary to provide a successful transition to upper division coursework at a four year college or university. Students will demonstrate strong communication skills both verbally and in writing. Students will also apply critical thinking skills to better understand and solve complex problems using a variety of perspectives. The strength of this program is the variety of disciplines with which students will demonstrate their knowledge within the areas of English, Mathematics, Social Science, Physical/Biological Sciences, Arts and Humanities. A Certificate of Achievement may be earned by completing a minimum of 34 units of degree credit coursework with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

Program Learning Outcomes:

- Think critically and express their thoughts clearly about an issue using support that reflects multicultural, literary, scientific, and/or mathematical thought.

Includes the principles, procedures, and techniques of firefighting and rescue. Technical and manipulative skills and concepts of fire control, fire behavior, tactics and strategy, and emergency management will be reviewed and put into practice during this course. The student will be trained according to the National Fire Protection Association, Standard 1001, and the California State Fire Marshal Office of State Fire Training Firefighter 1 and 2 that emphasize training in Firefighter 1 and 2, Wildland Firefighter, and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations. Students completing this certificate program will be qualified to test for employment with agencies and departments hiring entry-level firefighters.

The Administration of Justice program provides students with the legal, ethical and educational background necessary to pursue a career in a criminal justice-related field and/or to successfully transition into a four-year academic program. The program prepares students for successful completion of the California Peace Officer Standards and Training and Department of Corrections academies. The program also supports administration of justice professionals by providing staff development opportunities and promotional pathways.

A certificate of achievement may be earned by completing all the courses required for this major with a grade of C or better.

- Successfully create writing assignments related to employment in the criminal justice system.

- Apply good ethics and leadership to their decision making process as it relates to performing their jobs.

Company Officer is the first certification in the California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Officer series. The Company Officer Certification utilizes NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (2014) and NFPA 1051 Standard for Wildland Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications (2016) to provide the qualifications for State Fire Training’s Company Officer certification.
