The certificate of achievement in machining for mechanical engineering technology is offered to prepare students with the required aptitude and skills to enter the workforce as entry-level machinists, tool and die makers, or mold makers. Students will be prepared for careers that are highly in demand for aerospace, medical, electronic, high tech, and automotive and transport industries. Graduates of this program will be well equipped to continue their career advancement as engineers, product developers, prototype/ model builders, production machinist, or electro-mechanical maintenance and repair specialists.

Students completing this program will develop familiarity with lathes, mills, drill presses, and precision measuring. They will also be introduced to the concepts of computer numerical control (CNC) machines and 3D (additive) manufacturing processes, geometric dimension and tolerance (GD&T), and modern technical drawing (CAD) techniques.

Students must complete each of the courses required for the certificate with a “C” grade or higher. Students may not take a pass/no pass option for required courses.

- choose the correct manufacturing method for the object.

- manufacture an object from a given drawing using machine tools.

- use algebra, spreadsheets and measurement data to produce QC statistics.

- use computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) and computer numerical control (CNC) software for automation of manufacturing.

This program focuses on the areas of interior design and technology, and is designed to meet the needs of students who want to obtain entry-level jobs within the Interior Design Profession, such as interior design assistants and drafters. It also provides students who have currently employed in a related industry the opportunity for career advancement. Most courses required for the certificate program are also required for the Associate in Science Degree in Interior Design and Associate in Science Degree in Architecture if students wish to continue their studies.

This certificate is designed to meet the needs of students who want to obtain entry-level positions within the Construction Management profession. It also provides students who are currently employed in trades positions in the construction industry the opportunity for entry and/or advancement in management positions.

Drafters work under the supervision of civil or structural engineers, architects, and/or surveyors as support staff in jobs requiring them to prepare, interpret, and revise technical drawings, or gather and categorize field data. Engineering technicians work as support staff in field, laboratory and/or office environments.

It also provides students who are currently employed in the construction management industry in entry-level positions the opportunity for advancement by enhancing their knowledge. All courses required for the certificate program are also required
for the associate in science, making it easier for students to continue their studies to enhance their opportunities for career advancement.

Most courses required for the certificate program are also required for the Associate Degree in Architecture, Associate Degree in Interior Design, and transfer to a bachelor’s degree in Architecture program if students wish to continue their studies.

A Medical Assistant is a professional, multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in patient care management, primarily in a physician’s office or in an ambulatory clinical setting. Certified Medical Assistants are the most versatile professionals in the healthcare society. A medical assistant serving in the office or clinical setting may be responsible for taking patients’ histories, preparing patients for examinations, assisting the physician with procedures or performing related procedures within their scope of training. Also, a medical assistant may be responsible for sterilizing and packaging equipment used in the clinical setting, and for preparing the clinical rooms for the next patient. A medical assistant may be responsible for performing certain laboratory duties such as phlebotomy, cultures and various laboratory tests that may be ordered by the physician for the patient. Medical assistants perform these laboratory tests while under the supervision of the appropriate lab personnel and must observe all safety and technical standards. A medical assistant may choose to work in the administrative setting of a physician’s office or clinic. This area entails billing, filing, bookkeeping, transcription, patient scheduling, receptionist duties, and insurance filing. Many medical assistants function in a role combining both clinical and administrative duties.

A certificate of achievement may be earned by completing all the courses required for this major with a grade of C or better.

The Airframe Maintenance Technology Certificate prepares students for entry positions in airframe maintenance including general aircraft overhaul mechanic, accessory mechanic, electric shop mechanic, general cabin equipment mechanic, maintenance crew member, ramp service crew member and hangar crew member. The Airframe Maintenance Training received at the CCSF Aeronautics Department is certified by the FAA, CFR Part 147. Some of the subject areas that are covered in the Airframe Maintenance Training include topics such as Assembly and Rigging, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Power Systems, Cabin Atmosphere Control Systems, Communication and Navigation Systems, Aircraft Fuel Systems, Position and Warning Systems as well as Fire Protection Systems. Students will learn the proper nomenclature of aircraft airframe parts and components. Students may obtain the Certificate of Achievement in Airframe Maintenance Technology by successfully completing and passing (with at least a 70% score) all required subject areas associated with the Airframe Maintenance training, the student will then qualify to receive the Airframe Maintenance Technology Certificate of Achievement and qualify to take their Federal Aviation Administration exams. Once the graduating student passes all the required FAA exams, they are qualified to work in the Aviation Industry as a FAA Certified Airframe Technician.

The Aircraft Powerplant Maintenance Technology Certificate prepares students for entry positions in aircraft powerplant maintenance including accessory mechanic, general powerplant mechanic, maintenance crew member, ramp service crew member and hangar crew member. The Aircraft Powerplant Maintenance Training received at the CCSF Aeronautics Department is certified by the FAA, CFR Part 147. Some of the subject areas that are covered in the Powerplant Maintenance Training include topics such as Reciprocating Engine Overhaul, Turbine Theory and Operation, Systems such as Fuel Systems, Lubrication Systems, Ignition and Starting Systems, Troubleshooting and inspections as well as testing engines for proper operation.
