The program in Welding Technology offers instruction in the principles and practices of welding processes. Successful completion of the program provides sufficient training for entry-level into the field of production-type welding. Students have access to the latest instructional and practical experiences in a spacious, modern shop facility.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Be able to know and specify the safety requirements and knowledge as required in the welding trade.

2. Demonstrate the ability and theory to effectively solve problems encountered while welding or cutting and perform in accordance with industry standards.

3. Be prepared to learn the step-by-step procedure to pass the AWS Welder Qualification/Certification Exam, essential for employment as a welder.

4. Have a basic understanding how to solve common welding problems encountered in industry as well as reveal basic welding and cutting manipulative skills.

The Certificate of Achievement in Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) is a program designed for students planning to transfer to either the California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) system. It offers students a program of study which meets IGETC general education transfer requirements.

Although the certificate recognizes the completion of IGETC general education requirements, it does not guarantee admission to a specific campus within the CSU or UC system nor does it guarantee admission to a specific major. Some majors and colleges may require a different lower division preparation and/or a higher GPA than is necessary for this certificate.

Students who intend to transfer must meet all current IGETC general education transfer requirements including minimum GPA and eligibility for certification. Students are strongly advised to meet with a counselor to discuss transfer requirements and lower division major preparation that is needed for their intended transfer school.

The Certificate of Achievement in CSU General Education (CSU-GEBreadth) is a program designed for students planning to transfer to the California State University (CSU) System. It offers students a program of study which meets the lower division CSU general education requirements, and students who complete this certificate will only be required to complete a minimum of 9 semester units of upper division general education work at CSU after transfer.

Although the certificate recognizes the completion of lower division CSU general education requirements, it does not guarantee admission to a specific campus within the CSU system nor does it guarantee admission to a specific major. Principal areas of study include computer software applications, web graphics and web technology, cloud-based systems, and database and project management. CIS coursework includes terminology and provides hands-on laboratory experience with operating and network systems. Standalone and internet-based applications are also covered.

To earn a certificate of achievement, students must complete each course used to meet a certificate requirement with a “C” grade or higher. Required courses are available in the evening, during the day, and online.

The Welding Technician Certificate of Achievement prepares the graduate for employment as a welder or a welder helper in the metal trades. The major types of welding covered are shielded arc, acetylene gas welding, metal inert gas, tungsten inert gas, and automatic and semiautomatic welding machines.

A Certificate of Achievement can be obtained upon completion of the 15-unit Certificate Courses. All courses for this major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis. Completion of this program prepares the student to take the welders’ certification AWS D1.1 exam.

A study of the principles of water and wastewater disposal and purification including municipal and industrial wastewater collection and treatment. The program will satisfy most of the requirements for certification of water and wastewater treatment personnel.

A Certificate of Achievement can be obtained upon completion of the 25-33-unit major. All courses for this major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.

The Human Services Program is designed to teach students entry level helping skills to work in the high demand field of Human Services. Students will gain knowledge of human service delivery systems; communication skills for working with individuals, groups and diverse populations; case management techniques; and will have field experiences in one or more human service agencies. Counseling courses are offered one time per academic year.
