Certificate of Specialization in Electronic Assembly and Fabrication (Not Transcript Reported )
Skyline College
San Bruno, CA
The Electronic Assembly and Fabrication Certificate is intended to prepare students to enter the electronics field as assembly and fabrication technicians. The program provides a series of courses to meet the needs of industry in assembly, soldering skills, cable and connector fabrication, and fabrication techniques for both through-hole and surface mount devices (SMD). Electronic fundamentals (test instruments, basic electrical measurements, color-codes, schematic symbols, device outlines, datasheets, etc.) are provided in the introductory courses. Foundational surface mount technology (SMT) soldering skills are taught with a culmination in the J-STD-001 Certified IPC Application Specialist (CIS) certificate which focuses on the knowledge and hand skills employees need to produce high-quality soldered interconnections from consumer- to aerospace-electronics industry standards.
NOTE: This certificate is not transcripted and is not eligible for Financial Aid.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students completing this program will be able to:
- Select and operate electronic test and manufacturing equipment during measurement and assembly operations, with an emphasis on safety, lab cleanliness, equipment care and maintenance, and accuracy in results.
- Evaluate schematic diagrams, Bill of Materials (BOM), and PCB layout diagrams to manufacture an electronic product to completion.
- Prepare and install through-hole and SMD parts onto printed circuit assemblies, meeting aerospace-electronics industry specifications in accordance with the IPC J-STD-001 standard.
- Effectively communicate with and advise customers and co-workers, both written and orally, regarding the progress of and decisions made concerning test and repair procedures.
