The program in Low-Beginning ESL offers students the opportunity to gain the English language skills they to need for basic communication at home, school, and work. This includes listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, grammar, writing skills. This program prepares students to enter ESL courses at the high beginning level.

The ability to write accurate sentences and paragraphs is required in order to place into the credit English program, to successfully complete college-level coursework, to improve employment skills, and/or to reach personal goals.

The Digital Music Certificate of Achievement is designed to provide a foundation in digital music production for students with backgrounds in music, music technology, and/or multimedia design. The curriculum is based on recent advancements in the development of digital music systems and their widespread applications in both music and multimedia productions. It also provides students with hands-on experience and a working knowledge of the creative and technical issues surrounding the production of digital audio content and its application and synchronization with other media such as film, video game design and social media platforms. The certificate prepares students for career opportunities, professional development, and personal enrichment in the fields of digital music production and distribution, multimedia audio design, content for social media platforms, and music/multimedia software design. In addition, students receive information and resources to help them prepare for an entrepreneurial career in a creative field that requires self-motivation, small business acumen, social and networking skills in order to succeed.

✔ Operate the MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Instrument) and audio functions of a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).

✔ Construct an original piece of music using a DAW while applying music theory and knowledge of various musical genres to the creative process.

The Certificate of Proficiency in Communication Studies is designed for students who successfully complete ten or more units of communication course work at Mission College. The importance of interpersonal communication and intercultural communication, small group and team skills, and public speaking training cannot be emphasized enough in providing the fundamental skills for successful personal and professional activities. This certificate will not only enhance the student’s chances of being selected for a job, but it may also open doors both professionally and personally. Skills learned will increase understanding, ability to communicate with other people, and give the necessary material to build bridges with other people.

The PACE Certificate of Achievement is a multi-skill academic language certificate comprising of only degree-applicable courses. Upon completion, students are able to use cultural knowledge and communication skills to facilitate their use of English in academic contexts. This certificate formally recognizes the achievement of the English language necessary to succeed in college-level courses and compete in the labor market

This program represents the first phase of training in the Emergency Medical Technician career structure. The course covers all techniques of emergency equipment and supplies considered within the responsibilities of the EMT-I. In addition to didactic and skills training on campus, the course includes observation in a local hospital's Emergency Room and a ride-along rotation with a local ambulance company.

To receive a certificate students must achieve a minimum grade of C in the course and satisfactory completion of the clinical component and required skills testing.

Students admitted to the program are required to complete a satisfactory physical examination, immunization documentation verifying freedom of communicable disease, and a social security referenced background check.

Certification Eligibility Requirements: Successful completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course that meets or exceeds the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for Emergency Medical Technicians. Current CPR credential for health care providers and have demonstrated competence in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) skills. The Certificate of Achievement in Video, Animation, and Motion Graphics provides comprehensive training for video production, computer animation, motion graphics, and virtual production. Students completing the certificate of achievement are able to apply for entry-level employment in motion picture and video production, design and advertising agencies, public relations, and related industries, and/or continue their education at baccalaureate granting institutions.

The Certificate of Achievement in Video Game Development is designed to provide students with strong foundational skills in video game design and video game development. Students graduate with the competencies needed to apply for entry-level positions in video game design; animation, medical, and scientific visualization; motion pictures and visual effects; and visual simulation fields; and acquire transfer credit to continue their studies at baccalaureate institutions.

The Certificate of Achievement in System Administration prepares students to either enter the workforce as an entry-level information and communication technologies (ICT) professional or pursue a bachelor's degree in managing information systems. Graduates of the Certificate of Achievement in System Administration are prepared and eligible to sit for Microsoft and/or Linux certification exams. Competency in Microsoft® and/or UNIX/Linux systems administration and network administration is required.

A system administrator, or “sysadmin,” is a person who is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, especially multi-user computers such as servers. The system administrator seeks to ensure that the uptime, performance, resources, and security of the computers he or she manages meet the needs of the users, without exceeding the budget. To meet these needs a system administrator may acquire, install, or upgrade computer components and software; automate routine tasks; write computer programs; troubleshoot; train and/or supervise staff; and provide technical support.

As the use of technology expands throughout the economy, available positions in system administration are expected to grow. Employment of network and computer systems administrators is expected to grow 5% from 2018 to 2028, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov). Demand for these workers is high and should continue to grow as firms invest in newer, faster technology and mobile networks. System administrators are employed in all industry where there are computers which means majority of companies such as in the computer system design and related services industry, financial firms, hospitals and government offices.

Earning this certificate of achievement is advantageous for students who already have a degree but are looking to update their existing skills. The courses required in this certificate can also be used towards the Associate in Science in System Administration.
