Prepares students who have completed a California approved cosmetology program or are licensed cosmetologists for licensing as a Barber. The Cosmetology to Barbering crossover program requires 200 hours of comprehensive training in barbering services. Courses in the Cosmetology to Barbering Crossover program focuses on theoretical foundation, practical manipulative skills, business knowledge, client services, professional and ethical training, and preparation for licensure through the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Prepared with excellent entry-level skills, students are able to work in many facets of the Barbering industry.

This program provides students the foundational skills needed to start an entry-level job at a repair facility or dealership through the study of fundamentals and theory of the major systems on a vehicle and master entry-level automotive skills with significant "hands-on" time in the shop. Students will also complete a career class specific to the auto industry with topics including labor law, written and oral communication in the workplace, and technical writing skills needed to meet legal requirements for documentation. Students also have the opportunity to participate in an internship program with local repair facilities.

This certificate program meets the prerequisites of the full-time Automotive Technology program, allows students to earn AA degrees, provides students with the skills needed for their first automotive job, and provides internships with local employers to start their careers. Students can choose to continue their education, go to work, or, ideally, do both.

Upon successful completion of this certificate program, students will be eligible to apply to the full-time automotive program and will be proficient in the skills needed to start a career in the automotive industry.

The Ceramics Certificate of Achievement will provide a solid foundation for students continuing on to a baccalaureate college or university to major in Art or who have enough experience to develop a studio at home and make work for the market through various fairs and online venues. Students may choose to continue with their education to receive an AA in Ceramics. These courses emphasize the physical and conceptual qualities of works of art in ceramics. Students will identify historical and contemporary methods and styles of ceramics both locally and globally. In addition, they will be able to demonstrate advanced techniques in ceramic construction and glazing.

Students will be able to analyze their process of making and its connection to the history of ceramics and its connection to form and/or functional craft both orally and in written form. Note that the courses for the Certificate of Achievement are the foundation for completing the Associate in Arts in Ceramics. Students are well on their way to achieving an Associate in Arts in Ceramics once they've completed the Certificate of Achievement in Ceramics.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Analyze, express, and create conceptual and physical qualities of works of art in ceramics.

2. Identify historical and contemporary methods and styles of ceramic art both locally and globally.

3. Demonstrate advanced techniques in ceramic construction (pinch, coil, soft slab, hard slab, sgraffito); additive and subtractive techniques; wheel work and glaze application (dipping, spraying, and brushing); mid-range and high fire glazes.

4. Analyze their process of making and its connection to the history of ceramics and its connection to form and/or functional craft.

This non-credit certificate teaches students advanced skills on how to create more complex business documents. Students also gain additional skills in how to write and format business documents. This is the second certificate in a series of three Business Support Specialist certificates.

1. Effectively use different software applications in a variety of business documents.

This noncredit certificate program teaches students how to keyboard with progression to the creation of various types of business documents. Students will learn how to create formal business letters, formula-based spreadsheets, and presentations. A review of basic business writing will also be covered. This is the first in a series of three Business Support Specialist programs.
