The Sterile Processing Technology Program prepares graduates for employment in hospitals, outpatient surgery centers and private industry. Sterile Processing Technologist, also known as Sterile Processing Technicians, process and distribute sterilized equipment and other supplies throughout the medical facility.

Certification Eligibility Requirements: Sterile Processing Technician Program using the Core Curriculum of the International Association of Hospital Central Service Materials Management and which requires 400 hours of clinical practice. For more information, visit www. myhspa.org.

Sterile Processing Technology has certification but does not have an accreditation body.

Certificate of Achievement: Web Development Businesses, schools, community groups and other organizations all need a presence on the web, and the need for skilled web developers continues with the increasing volume of online content. Web developers are critical to creating and maintaining this online content. This certificate focuses on the scripting and programming used on the web. A web developer may focus on the back end or server-side of web delivery to ensure that a website functions correctly and efficiently, or on the front end helping to create interactions for users. 

Career/Transfer Opportunities: Career opportunities include the following: front-end web development, back-end web development, content management, web production, information architecture, application development, and mobile development.

The licensed vocational nurse is a member of the health care team and works under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. The certificate requirements consist of three semesters of study. Classroom theory consists of 10 to 12 hours per week. Approximately 18 hours per week are spent in clinical experiences and three hours per week in clinical simulation. Students must achieve a score of 75% or higher in all core courses and a C or better in all other courses in the program. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to apply for the national licensing examination (NCLEX-PN). Enrollment is limited. Students may obtain information from the Mission College website, under the Nursing/Health Occupations link, for information-session dates, application process, required courses, and recommended courses prior to entry into the program. 

Career/Transfer Opportunities: The licensed vocational nurse is a member of the health care team who works under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Employment opportunities for the licensed vocational nurse following licensure include sub-acute and extended care facilities, convalescent and rehabilitation institutions, home health agencies, and ambulatory care clinics.

The Virtual Production Fundamentals Certificate of Achievement, offered as a part of the Regional Virtual Production Academy (RPVA) collaborative, prepares students for entry-level careers in virtual production. Students will apply the skills from film production, computer graphics, digital imaging, visual effects and game engines to the virtual production process. Students may select courses from the participating colleges to complete the certificate. Career opportunities for completers of this program include (among others) Special Effects Artists and Animators, Producers and Directors, and Camera operators for film, television, and video.

The noncredit Certificate in Video and Motion Graphics is intended to provide the necessary basic technical and creative skills needed in video production and the creation of motion graphics. The students develop an understanding of video production and post-production in a series of hands-on projects and exercises, and also learn to produce motion graphics and visual effects for video. Career opportunities include work in Video Production, Image composition, Lighting, Video Post Production, Motion Graphics Production, and Video compositing

The Certificate of Achievement in User Experience and Interaction Design is intended to provide the necessary basic technical and creative skills for those planning to enter this growing field of user experience, interaction, and/or user interface design. The program will prepare students for positions in web and mobile application and interactive media design fields such as entry level user experience designers, user interface and interaction designers, user researchers, information architects, digital media designers, and content developers. Other examples where students might find employment using their creative problem-solving and UX/IxD design skills might include website design and development, the creation of interactive media such as digital publications, marketing presentation design, interactive learning product design, virtual & augmented reality design, user research and usability testing. By the end of the program students will understand and apply the basic principles of user experience and interaction design as applied to digital media, web, and mobile application design.  

Career/Transfer Opportunities:  Career opportunities include the following: web design, user experience design, interaction design, interface design, information architecture, visual design, content strategy, and mobile design. This program can be completed completely online.

Program Learning Outcomes

✔ Students will be able to identify, explain, and apply advanced User Experience and Interaction Design principles such as universal design, user research, heuristic analysis, personas, information architecture, storyboarding, user task flows, journey maps, prototyping, principles of interface design, and common UI design patterns.

✔ Students will be able to generate comprehensive documentation related to a UX business strategy and goals, user research, personas, application features and specifications, site and journey maps, storyboards, wireframes and prototypes.

✔ Students will apply the technical concepts and best practices used in user experience design, interaction design, and interface design to develop designs, assets, and functional prototype(s) for web, mobile, and other applications at an intermediate level.

This program is to prepare students to become successful tutors. There are two required courses in the program, INS 810 and INS 815. Both courses focus on vital skills and knowledge such as tutoring strategies, learning styles, active listening, problem-solving and best practices for working with a diverse student population. Those skills are in accordance with the qualifications set forth by the College Reading and Learning Association’s International Tutor Training Program Certification.

The Certificate of Achievement in Transfer Studies – IGETC is designed to provide students the knowledge, skills, experiences, and perspectives that will enable them to expand their capacities to take part in a wide range of human interests and activities; to confront personal, cultural, moral, and social problems that are an inevitable part of human life; and to cultivate both the requisite skills and enthusiasm for lifelong learning. These courses offer the opportunity for students to develop knowledge of, or skills related to, quantitative reasoning, information literacy, intellectual inquiry, global awareness and understanding, human diversity, civic engagement, communication competence, ethical decision-making, environmental systems, technology, lifelong learning and self-development, and physical and emotional health throughout a lifetime. The variety of different subjects provide a well-rounded or "liberal" education and develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that together help create an educated person. Career/Transfer Opportunities: This certificate is designed for those who intend to complete university general education requirements prior to transfer to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) campus. Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) will permit a student to transfer from a California Community College to a CSU or UC campus generally without the need, after transfer, to take additional lower-division, general education courses to satisfy campus general education requirements.
