This Certificate of Achievement in Spanish is best suited for non-degree seeking students, such as professional people, who want to improve their fluency in Spanish and/or those wishing to present to their employers' academic evidence of having completed a specific sequence of focused courses. Spanish is frequently a highly in demand language in the workforce. Upon completion of the program the student will be able to provide evidence of language competence in Spanish (reading, writing, listening, speaking) that will increase marketability and/or enhance job performance, especially in professions where knowledge of the Spanish language is necessary or helpful. It is also supplementary preparation for many fields including emergency services, the legal and medical professions, social work, business , hospitality management, information technology, foreign service, public relations, journalism, translation, and interpretation. The Certificate of Achievement will satisfy a transfer language requirement, and can be used as the foundation for those wishing to complete a Spanish AA-T.

Upon successful completion of 21 units of course requirements and 2000 hours of related work experience, graduates of the Certificate of Achievement in Light Rail Operator will be eligible for a Certificate of Completion of Light Rail Operator Apprenticeship from two government entities: the State of California Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Apprenticeship Standards, and the US Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, Office of Apprenticeship. Graduates are employed as Light Rail Operators, an entry-level position in the mass transit field. A Light Rail Operator employed by a transit agency can readily transfer/promote into a wide range of transit career positions, if qualified.

Solano Community College’s Firefighter 1 & 2 Certificate of Achievement will cover the principles, procedures, and techniques of firefighting and rescue. Students will be trained according to the curriculum established by the Office of the California State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and the State Fire Training Division (SFT). The curriculum will also adhere to the standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The program is excellent for recent high school graduates, college students, ex-healthcare workers, those looking for a career change, and anyone who wants entry into the pharmacy or health fields. Mission College's Pharmacy Technician Program provides both theory and real-world application. Participate in over 400 hours of instruction that includes lecture and lab instruction, tutoring, workshop sessions, and hands-on clinical externship training in a pharmacy setting. Lab Activities include simulations of real-life settings and hands-on practice with the dispensing and compounding of drug products, pharmacy software, drug labeling, inventory, and aseptic technique in our state-of-the-art pharmacy lab. Job-Direct Certificate in Emergency Medical Technician I

The School of Health Sciences offers a Job-Direct Low Unit Certificate in Emergency Medical Services (EMS). For the certificate, a student must complete EMS 112 Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) successfully. Prior to taking EMS 112 Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) students must successfully complete EMS 110 Emergency Medical Responder.


EMS are professional medical responders that have the opportunity to transport and care for patients in various scenarios and emergency situations.  EMS principles that are covered throughout this program include, but are not limited to: leadership, followership, communication, safety, situational awareness, scene size-up, decision-making, patient assessment and professionalism. EMS students learn about the practices and procedures through lectures, skills lab, simulations, role-playing, tactical decision games and 24 hours of field experience. Students who successfully complete all 170 hours with an overall grade of 80% (B) or better will qualify to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) computerized adaptive test as required by the state of California for certification. Certification enables students to qualify for employment with ambulance services, fire or rescue services, search and rescue crews, ski patrol, or related pre-hospital emergencies.
