The Master Tutor Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to provide tutoring skills with an emphasis on group management, cognitive scaffolding, and self-regulated learning and provides a general overview of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. Students gain experience in identifying accessibility barriers and methods to create and design content to leverage engagement and increase inclusivity. Students leave the program with job ready skills for use in local tutoring programs and as teaching assistants. The program also provides content needed for College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program, Level III certification. Prior enrollment and successful completion of the Tutor Preparation Program is required. Students can repeat the courses in the program to gain additional skills or to meet new industry certification standards .

The Certificate of Achievement in Pharmacy Technician is designed to prepare students to work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist in hospitals, retail pharmacies, and other institutional settings. The Pharmacy Technician Program starts in the Fall Semester each year.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

🗸 Perform the administrative and clinical skills necessary for entry-level employment as a pharmacy technician in a hospital, retail pharmacy, or other institutional setting.

This program prepares students to work with patients and members of a healthcare team as an emergency department technician. Courses provide theoretical content, technical training, and preparation to work with diverse and vulnerable patient populations.

The Introduction to Infant/Toddler Development Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to allow students to examine the cognitive, language, physical, and social/emotional development of infants and toddlers, how that development is supported through play and relationships and attachments with their family and caregivers. This certificate also examines responsive care practices for supporting infant and toddler development, how infants and toddlers construct knowledge, learn language and culture; and develop relationships, emotional self-regulation, and autonomy.

Upon completion, students will be able to work in private childcare settings. May be offered in a bilingual or distance-learning format.

The Introduction to Child Development Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to present the basic concepts of ages and stages, developmental theory, and child observation and analysis from birth to five years of age. Students will apply theory, concepts and terminology to observations, written documentation, and analysis of early childhood development. Prepares students for work in the field of early childhood education and credit bearing early childhood education (ECE) courses that apply to the California Child Development Permit Matrix. May be offered in bilingual or a distance-learning format.

The Early Childhood Education for Teaching Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Teachers Certificate of Achievement is specifically designed to meet the needs of students interested in becoming TK teachers, current TK teachers, as well as multiple subject credential holders who require the Early Childhood unit requirement to become a TK teacher or teach K-3. This certificate provides students with a foundation in child development, including the application of child developmental theory to current best practices in the classroom, building authentic, trusting relationships with children, working effectively with diverse student populations, and designing developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive curriculum for young children. This certificate offers hands-on learning experiences working with young children in the Cabrillo College Children's Center and Lab School.

The Early Childhood Education for Elementary Teaching Certificate of Achievement prepares the student to assist in schools and other group educational settings. The certificate offers courses in preparation for the associate degree and/or transfer to a four-year university with a foundation in child development, applying developmental theories to learning, culturally and linguistically responsive teaching strategies and curriculum development, the positive guidance approach, working effectively with diverse student populations, and understanding typical/atypical behavior. The certificate provides foundational courses in child development in preparation for transfer to a four-year university to continue a course of study in child development, elementary education (including Transitional Kindergarten), special education, or other teacher credentialing pathways.

The Web Design Certificate of Achievement provides students with foundational concepts in web design, coding languages, accessibility best practices, and the skills to identify the needs of the target audience in real-world applications. The certificate teaches students how to efficiently create and maintain responsive websites using current technology, combining foundational concepts of writing valid HTML/CSS code with accessibility best practices. Students will be able to create attractive and functional web design projects from concept to the finished product.

This certificate will prepare students for entry-level careers in web design and provide students with foundational web design knowledge for use in various professional settings as they join the workforce or as they acquire continuing education in their current profession.

The User Interface/User Experience  (UI/UX) Certificate of Achievement prepares students to design and build user interfaces for websites and interactive media that are focused on the needs of users, creating a balance between form and function. Students will explore concepts of user interface design such as human-computer interaction, usability, user experience, and user research.

This certificate prepares students for careers as entry-level UI/UX designers. Students will explore foundational knowledge of industry-standard tools used by UI/UX designers and implement creative problem solving approaches in order to create interfaces that are attractive, functional, and accessible.

The Typography Certificate of Achievement prepares students to create visual typographic design solutions that communicate ideas and captivate users in print, screen, and interactive media. Students explore professional typography techniques and use type to communicate messages with intent and clarity. Students use Adobe software as a tool to develop an understanding of typography in the larger context of graphic design. Students discover techniques to make text look more professional, and explore the application of the typographic design processes in a variety of situations and graphic design projects.
