This general concentration forms an excellent basis for a broad liberal arts education and has been the chosen mode of preparation for successful careers in such diverse areas as university teaching, government, education, medicine, consulting, publishing, business, and finance.

The Digital Media Arts program focuses on a rigorous program of design and media coursework in preparation for a career in digital media, digital design, design development and media publishing. The program develops visual communication skills in print, web and media development.

Learning Outcome(s):

✓ Practice creative self-improvement through critical evaluation, application of design vocabulary and personal creative application.

✓ Create unique visual communication packages in print, web and media design.

✓ Create unique graphics for applications across multiple media platforms.

✓ Practice all aspects of the design production process in a professional manner, through client-based interactions, project management, and observation of deadlines

The concentration in Ethics, Politics, and Law is designed as a preparation for the study of law as well as for advanced professional study in applied ethics. It is also intended to give undergraduates a foundation in rational decision-making, embodying the conviction that such an intellectual capacity has broad application.

The concentration gives students an understanding of the theories behind moral and legal principles as well as training in the process of decision-making applying those principles. Students will be called upon to make decisions in particular cases; state the facts impartially; convey their decisions and their reasoning cogently and persuasively; and justify their decisions by showing how they are both a reasonable consequence of those principles and not overturned by overriding conflicting principles. There will be a particular emphasis on clear and effective writing.

The Fashion Journalism Associate in Arts Degree is designed to provide a course of study that prepares students for entry-level employment as a professional and competent in fashion journalism fields as a fashion writer or equivalent. Individuals with this degree are able to work as a fashion editor and write for fashion magazines, trade magazines, newspapers, social media, and public relations. This degree requires 22-24 units in the major in addition to other graduation requirements.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

🗸 Apply research techniques to evaluate and assess a specific target market using the results to create original content for a fashion social media post

🗸 Compose and revise a fashion editorial with a compelling lead, adequate sourcing and context, clear transitions, and a strong title for a current fashion editorial.

The concentration in Science, Reason and Values is designed for students who are interested in the philosophical, rational and moral foundations of science and its applications.  This concentration provides an excellent double major opportunity for science students interested in broadening and deepening their understanding of the normative elements of their chosen field. It is also a good choice for philosophy students who are interested in graduate study in the philosophy of science.

Completion of the associate degree prepares students to move into a four-year program leading to a baccalaureate degree. Please consult a SAC counselor for information about course requirements for particular four-year institutions. The associate degree also trains students to assume entry-level positions in broadcasting, cable TV, corporate video, and advertising.

✓ Students will acquire sufficient knowledge and understanding of the various aspects and crew positions associated with producing

coordinate the necessary resources and successfully execute the plan as either an individual or a member of a production team.

✓ Students will demonstrate critical thinking by reviewing and critiquing past and current movies and TV shows to assess their strengths and weaknesses from the point of view of the media consumer

The Fashion Design Associate in Arts Degree is designed to provide a course of study that prepares students for entry-level employment as a professional and competent in the fashion apparel industry as an assistant designer or equivalent. Individuals with this degree are able to design, build an apparel line, illustrate collections by hand and on the computer, and create patterns manually as well as on the computer. Individuals with this degree may also find entry level positions in the field of design, technical design, and merchandising. This degree requires completion of 25-27 units of required courses. A minimum grade of C is required in each course taken.
