The associate degree in accounting prepares students for entry-level positions and promotional opportunities in accounting, taxation, and administrative departments of businesses in areas such as manufacturing, merchandising, financial service, wholesale trades, and government. Specialized training in accounting enables students to maintain accounting records and develop financial reports and make effective use of financial information for analysis and decision-making. Entry-level employment opportunities include positions in accounts receivable and accounts payable, payroll, income tax preparation, and cost accounting. Promotional opportunities include higher-level responsibilities in these areas and the areas of general ledger, financial statement preparation, and financial statement analysis.

The Accounting Associate in Science Degree is designed to prepare students for employment in the fields of accounting and/or bookkeeping. This major is best suited for the student who wishes to pursue secure rewarding positions such as accounting manager, internal auditor, financial analyst, tax accountant, or controller in public accounting firms, corporations, governmental agencies, or not-for-profit organizations. A grade of C or better is required in each course taken. This degree requires 32-34 units.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

🗸 Recognize revenues and expenses in the proper period as required in accrual basis accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and make adjustments to ledger accounts accordingly.

🗸 Develop and use accounting information for daily recording of business financial transactions in a manufacturing environment, and develop and use operational budgets for a manufacturing company.

🗸 Use the computer to input routine cash and credit transactions involving sales, purchases, expenses and employees into a computerized general ledger accounting software program.

🗸 Prepare, comprehend, and analyze the basic accounting financial statements: Income Statement, Retained Earnings Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows and the related notes to the financial statements.

The Associate in Science in Business Administration for Transfer (AS-T) prepares students to move into a curriculum at a four-year institution leading to a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration. Please consult a counselor regarding specific course requirements for your transfer institution. Completion of the AS-T degree also provides guaranteed admission with junior
status to the CSU system, although does not guarantee admission to a specific campus or major. See Associate Degrees for Transfer for a list of additional requirements for all Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) and Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degrees.

Upon completion of the AS-T degree in Business Administration, students will have a general understanding of business fundamentals, including the areas of accounting, economics, and computer information systems. In addition, they will have an understanding of the legal environment of business, and will
have a sufficient understanding of mathematical concepts to enable them to successfully pursue a business degree at a four-year institution. The AS-T degree in Business Administration is appropriate for students whose vocational plans include careers in business fields such as accounting, computer information systems, finance, management, marketing, or other business fields.

In addition to the general education requirements, the associate degree and certificate curriculum in welding technology is designed to provide comprehensive occupational training in all common types of welding methods relating to the needs of today’s welding fabrication industry. The program provides students with the practical skills and technical knowledge required to operate Oxy-Fuel cutting equipment, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). In addition, students will be prepared for certification as required by employment in the welding industry. Employment opportunities available are Welder, Welder Technician, Inspector, Maintenance Welder, Pipe Welder, and Shipbuilder. The Santa Ana College Welding Program is a Los
Angeles Certified Testing Lab Facility. The program offers training and testing for the following certifications: SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and GMAW.

The Associate of Science in Earth Sciences degree is designed to provide students who need or want broad knowledge of the Earth sciences for their profession, but do not necessarily plan on becoming professional geoscientists.  In addition to the geosciences, professions where such knowledge could prove to be useful include environmental sciences, urban planning and land use, transportation, travel and tourism, education, park rangers and other recreation professionals.

The Associate Degree in Science in Early Childhood Education prepares students to transfer into a baccalaureate degree program in Child Development or a related field of study. Students will gain general knowledge and experience in early childhood education topics enabling them to obtain a Child Development  Center Permit and meet the standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children for appropriate teaching practices in early learning settings.

The Associate of Science degree in Data Science will provide students with a solid foundation in the fields of data science, industry intelligence, and analytics. The program is designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs, or to help them advance into careers, such as Associate Data Scientist, Junior Data Scientist, Modeling and Simulation Specialist, Modeling and Simulation Analyst, Big Data Analyst, and Senior Data Analyst.

This Associate of Science degree in Construction Management is for current, new or future project managers and team members who may seek the Project Management Professional designation as part of their future career plan. The content includes project definition, planning, group dynamics, workplace diversity, team roles and communication techniques, problem-solving, evaluation and final reporting on results in both a classroom setting and with opportunities for application.

This program is designed to prepare speech-language pathology assistants to aid speech-language pathologists in the speech and language development of ​​​​children and adults with communication disorders. They are trained to conduct screenings for speech-language and hearing disorders (without interpretation), administer treatment assistance as prescribed by the speech-language pathologist, and provide support assistance to the speech-language pathologist. They work with infants, children, young adults and seniors in educational, clinical and medical settings (e.g. schools, daycare centers, hospitals, nursing homes and clinics).

The Associate of Science program offers an intensive course of study in the area of speech and language disorders. This includes supervised treatment and field experience in a variety of settings. Upon completion of the A.S. degree program, the graduate is eligible for registration as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Examining Board

All AS degree requirements must be completed with a grade of 'C' or better at the conclusion of the program.

​Speech-Language Pathology assistants are trained individuals who work under the supervision of licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologists. They help children and adults with communication disorders improve their speech and language skills.
