The study of business is a broad and diverse discipline that encompasses topics and tools needed for transfer to baccalaureate programs as well as for entering the world of professional business careers, whether domestic or global. Students who complete the Business Administration 2.0 receive priority admission to the California State University system, though admission to a specific campus is not guaranteed. While an associate degree may support attempts to gain entry-level employment or promotion, a baccalaureate or higher degree is recommended for those considering professional careers, pursuit of which can be achieved through transfer.

One of the main goals of the Business Administration 2.0 is to help students wishing to pursue a baccalaureate degree to transfer seamlessly to a CSU to major in Business Administration. Coursework necessary to transfer to a UC and many private universities is also included in the curriculum, and the courses selected by the student can be tailored with advice provided by an academic counselor to emphasize one of the various concentrations available.

The Basic Culinary Skills Certificate of Completion program prepares students for many entry level culinary employment opportunities. These include positions as institution and cafeteria cooks, restaurant cooks, and food preparation workers. Students will be provided with the essential skills of sanitation as well as foundational cooking and baking, operations, and production in order to obtain entry level employment in the food service industry.

The Banking and Finance Associate of Science degree provides study in the areas of banking and financial management, including the organization, operation, financing and functions of banks and certain related financial institutions. The program prepares students who wish to pursue careers in banking or related financial institutions, such as credit unions, sales and consumer finance companies, government agencies, and other.

Some of the many jobs for which this program prepares students include Branch Operations Assistant, Bankruptcy Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator, Consumer Credit Analyst Assistant, Consumer Finance Assistant, Loans Processor Assistant, Customer Service Representative, Asset Management Assistant, Loan Representative, Mortgage Operations Assistant, New Accounts Assistant, Regulatory Compliance Analyst Assistant, Teller, Trust Assistant.

The chemistry curriculum is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to pursue a major in (1) chemistry, biology, marine science, geology, physics, medicine, engineering, or technology; (2) paramedical or allied health science, including nursing, dental hygiene, physical therapy, or nutrition; or (3) liberal arts. Students learn how chemical knowledge is derived, theorized, and applied in solving problems in everyday life. They perform experiments in a modern chemistry laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment under the guidance of experienced faculty. In addition, students have an opportunity to enhance their understanding of chemical concepts and improve their laboratory skills through a series of computer-aided lessons and exercises.

Program Outcome

✓ The outcome of the certificate of achievement is to prepare students for employment within the hospitality, travel, and tourism industries as a meeting, convention, or event planner.

The Medical Assisting program includes specific business and clinical courses that prepare students for employment as clinical and/or administrative assistants in medical offices, clinics, or in related medical and business fields. The coursework can be completed in two semesters, and includes on-the-job experience in a medical office or ambulatory care center.

Orange Coast College is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Such accreditation permits graduates of this program to take the California Certified Medical Assistant examination (CCMA) immediately upon graduation. The California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants has been administering the CCMA exam since 1990. CCMA is one of three Boards that is recognized by the Medical Board of California. The medical assisting profession is highly diversified, and the work is challenging and personally rewarding. Employment opportunities are excellent in the expanding healthcare field.

Students graduating with an Associate in Science in Mathematics for a Transfer Degree are well positioned to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in a similar major within the California State University system with 60 units of upper-division coursework. Students who complete the Mathematics AS-T degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Students must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework. While a minimum 2.0 is required for CSU admission, some majors may require a higher GPA. Program Outcome

✓ Students will be eligible and prepared for admission (SB 1440 and Education Code 66746) to California State University system schools.

The Automotive Engine Performance Specialist Associate of Science degree prepares students for careers as automotive technicians with an emphasis in engine performance. In this program, students will apply knowledge of all phases of engine electrical systems, computer system operations, diagnostics, and repair. Students will be qualified to take the State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair Smog License exams upon completion of this program. This degree prepares students for careers such as Automotive Computer Diagnostic Technician, Automotive California Smog Inspection and Repair Technician, Automotive Performance Technician, and General Automotive Technician.
