The Economics Education Certificate Program is designed to give participants a solid foundation in economics that will enable them to teach the subject in primary and secondary schools. The Certificate Program is intended for

  1. future or practicing teachers who desire credential authorization to teach the one-semester economics course required of all California public high school students; and
  2. future or practicing teachers who wish to infuse economics into other K-12 curricula.

Students majoring in Liberal Studies or Social Science or completing a teacher credential program are especially encouraged to participate.

Intersegmental General Education (IGETC) Certificate of Achievement

A certificate of achievement will be granted to students who complete a minimum of 37 units from areas 1 through 7 of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements. IGETC requirements are designed to be taken within a major area of concentration and elective courses in preparation for transfer to the University of California (UC) or California State University (CSU) systems.*


To receive this Certificate of Achievement, students should:


🗸 Review the IGETC pattern sheet in this catalog or available from the Counseling Center.

🗸 Consult with a counselor to insure students understand and are following all requirements.

🗸 Receive a grade of C or better is required in ALL coursework used for IGETC certification.

🗸 Verify through their counselor and www.assist.org that classes taken are approved for IGETC the semester they are taken.

🗸 Complete at least 3 units in residency at Fullerton College.


Note: Students who receive the IGETC Certificate of Achievement do not need to request separate GE Certification; it will automatically granted and indicated on their transcript if all requirements are met. Note: Completion of the IGETC requirements alone is not enough to make students eligible for admission to a UC or CSU. *Following the IGETC pattern may not always be the best option for students, especially those transferring to highly impacted majors in the UC or CSU system. Please consult with a counselor for details on completing all transfer admission requirements or using course work from other institutions.


The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Certificate of Achievement allows students to complete Certification of General Education Requirements for the University of California (UC) system. To meet general education requirements and obtain certification, students must complete the pattern of courses in the categories listed. Certification is not automatic. Students must apply for GE certification through the Admissions and Records Office by the published deadline during the semester in which requirements will be completed or thereafter. The course must be on the IGETC GE list when it is taken in order to be certified. Students should refer to the Fullerton College IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) GE-Breadth Certification List on www.assist.org to verify that a course was valid when it was taken. A course or sequence of courses used to satisfy a requirement in one area may not be used to satisfy a requirement in another area. Some universities will not allow students to count courses in their major field as part of general education. Students should check with a counselor and review the university catalog for further clarification. There are two options within this certificate, a student may choose a course from Area 1C (to prepare for CSU transfer) or satisfy the UC Foreign Language Requirement (to prepare for UC transfer). This certificate requires a total of 38-51 semester units in courses from the areas listed below.

Stage and Screen Combat Level 2 Certificate

The Stage and Screen Combat Level 2 Certificate builds upon the Level 1 Certificate and is designed for students who seek additional weapon training, advanced performance skills in classical theatre and on-camera acting/stunts as well as business and marketing techniques required by industry professionals to find and secure employment. This certificate requires completion of the Level 1 Certificate (17.5-25 units) plus additional advanced courses for Level 2 (16-18 units), for a total of 33.5-43 units. At least one half of the units toward the certificate must be completed at Fullerton College with a grade of C or better in each course taken.

Industrial Maintenance Technician Certificate

The Industrial Maintenance Technician Certificate is designed to provide fundamental, hands-on training on industrial systems and equipment. Students will study the basic principles, applications, concepts and functions of manufacturing, measurement systems, electrical components and motors, programmable logic controllers, mechanical components, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems. This certificate requires a total of 46-50 units. A minimum of grade of C is required in each course taken. The program is intended to improve students’ understanding of modern Africa. As a significant part of the world community, Africa merits focused and sustained study. This program provides a cohesive, directed effort to develop students’ knowledge and appreciation for Africa’s peoples, geography, institutions, arts, customs, languages, traditions, resources, politics, and social structures. The program is designed and structured in a way that will be useful to the student, both professionally and academically. The program provides different options: a specific emphasis in international relations; interests in a particular aspect of African life such as art, history, or society; or general intellectual curiosity.

The CSU International Programs provide opportunities for students at Sacramento State to study and live in Africa.  This constitutes a valuable adjunct to African Studies on the campus. Students are strongly urged to take at least one year of a language used in Africa other than English. Course selection for each student is worked out with an advisor from the African Studies faculty in conjunction with the Director of Pan African Studies.
