The Creative Arts Certificate of Completion program is provided for students through Coastline Community College's Special Programs and Services (COAST) Program. Classes are taught by Special Programs faculty and mentored by field professionals. During this program, students will learn the basics of entry-level art, music, and theater vocations. Classes will be held at the Coastline Community Colleges campus in Newport Beach and locally throughout Orange County at appropriate training sites, including professional and community art, music, and theater traditional and nontraditional sites. Students graduating with a Creative Basics Certificate of Completion will be prepared for many entry-level paid opportunities in these industries. In addition to vocational options, students are encouraged to volunteer in their communities at local exhibition and performance sites and participate in community stewardship activities.

Certificate of Completion in Art Basics

The Art Basics Certificate of Completion is provided for students through Coastline Community College's Special Programs and Services Career Options through Academic Support and Training (COAST) Program. Classes are taught by Special Programs faculty and mentored by field professionals. During this four-semester program, students will learn the basics of two and three-dimensional artistic practices, stagecraft, and gallery exhibition. Classes are held at the Coastline Community College campus in Newport Beach, and utilize the state-of-the-arts lab classrooms and prestigious Coastline Gallery. Students graduating with an Arts Basics Certificate of Completion will be prepared for entry-level paid opportunities within the industry. These jobs include fine artist, artist assistant (drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, collage, ceramics, and sculpture) as well as exhibition assistant opportunities at galleries, museums, and other exhibition sites. In addition to vocational options, students are encouraged to volunteer in their communities at local exhibition sites, fairs, festivals and participate in community stewardship activities.

The Animal Care Certificate of Completion Program is provided for students through Coastline College's Special Programs Career Options through Academic Support and Training (COAST) Program. Classes are taught by Special Programs faculty and mentored by field professionals. Students may elect to take Fundamentals of Basic Animal Care to learn more about the program or they can take the full series of required courses to receive a Certificate of Completion in Animal Care.


Special Programs is happy to host this three-semester program. Students will learn basic care for a variety of common and exotic animals found throughout Orange County. Classes will be held both at the Coastline College campus in Newport Beach and locally throughout Orange County at appropriate animal training sites including zoos, farms, wetlands, equestrian centers, and beachside.

Certificate of Competency in Mathematics for Workforce Developmental Skills

Consisting of two tuition-free noncredit courses, Math C001N and Math C002N, this certificate is designed for students who want to learn mathematics for workforce developmental skills. It also prepares students for the certificate of Preparation for College Level Mathematics, or for anyone who wants to enhance his or her pre-college level mathematics skills without taking any credit class. Topics cover arithmetic and consumer applications, including fractions, decimals, and percents. There are no skills prerequisites for this certificate, which may be taken concurrently or sequentially.  In addition, this certificate helps prepare students with limited math skills for AA, AS, or other math certificate programs.

Students will gain basic knowledge of U.S. geography, government, and history.

This is a beginning-level certificate program in English as a Second Language which utilizes the basic English reading, writing, speaking, and listening of students. It prepares students for further academic study in intermediate-level ESL courses by improving fundamental English language skills needed to communicate in and about a digital environment and interact with online coursework.  This program allows students to work in a hands-on environment to use technology.  Successfully completing this program will help students build the confidence they need to enroll in classes which more heavily rely on technology, hybrid classes, or online classes after achieving the necessary English proficiency.

Each program provides learning opportunities, which introduce, develop, and reinforce occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes required in the industry.


The Food and Beverage Management Department offers a varied curriculum focusing on food and beverage management, dining room service, bar management, sustainable food systems, food recovery and catering.
