This Emergent English Language certificate consists of three courses: ELL A016N, English Language Learning: Beginning A; ELL A026N, English Language Learning: Beginning B; and ELL A027N, Beginning Grammar Review. This program is designed for beginning English language learners who want to improve their communication skills.

Program Outcome

✓ Students will demonstrate the listening and speaking skills required to have short conversations with members of their communities orally and in writing.

✓ Students will be able to express an opinion about a short, simplified oral or written text.

EMS certification is required to work for an ambulance service or in an emergency department and may be required for lifeguards, ski patrol, and firefighters. The EMS provides the care necessary to preserve life and to prevent disability among the acutely ill and the seriously injured and assists and communicates with other healthcare providers with a higher scope of practice.

The EMS must have basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and sterile techniques. The course of study emphasizes treating traumatic injuries and medical emergencies, as well as treating minor disorders and emotional problems. Specialized areas include obstetrical and pediatric emergencies and extricating entrapped persons. Special emphasis is placed on proper patient moving techniques and transport to definitive and appropriate medical care.

Successful completion of the EMS course qualifies the student to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians’ certifying examination, and therefore obtain EMS certification in any California County.

✓ Certified graduates of this program will have the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor skills and knowledge necessary to enter the field of professional prehospital care as specified by the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

The Embedded Systems Technician Certificate is geared towards students who want to take their programming and circuit-building skills to the next level. Students will become proficient in programming a variety of microcontrollers to perform tasks in an embedded application in C-based programming languages. Students who have obtained this certificate will be proficient at the use of multimeters and oscilloscopes to analyze circuit design and troubleshoot problems. Students will gain familiarity with digital communication protocols. This certificate is designed to teach students the skills necessary to build a career working with embedded electronics commonly found in consumer devices, IoT-connected devices, and autonomous vehicles.

Students earning this certificate are encouraged to continue their education by completing the additional requirements for the Associate of Science degree. They are also encouraged to pursue a bachelor's degree in an Electrical Engineering or Computer Science discipline. Students must complete the Robotics Technician Certificate of Achievement (12-13 units) as a prerequisite to entry into the Embedded Systems Technician program.

The Associate of Arts degree for Transfer (AA-T) in Elementary Teacher Education is designed for prospective California State University(CSU) transfer students who are preparing for careers as Elementary School Teachers. Completion of the Elementary Teacher Education degree will provide a streamlined pathway for transfer to a CSU campus with a Liberal Studies or similar major. Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies prepares students to apply to approved teacher education programs leading to a credential to teach in elementary, self-contained classrooms. The Liberal Studies major and aligned AA-T Elementary Teacher
Education curriculum provides depth and breadth of subject matter content typically taught in Kindergarten through sixth-grade classroom settings in California. Students who plan to enter a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) approved program leading to a preliminary Multiple Subject Credential are required to demonstrate subject matter competency.

The requirements for completion of a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential include verification of subject matter competence. Pursuant to Education Code Section 44259 (b)(5), the Commission provides candidates two alternative paths for fulfilling this requirement: (1) completion of a Commission-approved program of subject matter preparation at a California college or university and (2) passage of a subject matter examination. Additional statutes relate to the subject matter that can be included in an approved program and on the examination. Relevant Education Code sections are included below.

This certificate prepares students to work with K-12 children in a before and after-school care program, or mentoring program. Includes the developmental stages of the school-age child, working with diverse populations, and an introduction to the profession of teaching. Students will gain experience volunteering in an elementary school classroom so that they can explore career opportunities in education. Courses emphasize strong theoretical and practical skills needed to work with children 5-8 years. Can be employed as a Before and After school care provider, tutor, or elementary classroom aide. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses.

Program Outcome

✓ Pathway for future Transitional Kindergarten and/or Elementary Teachers entering a Credential program, and satisfying the specialization unit requirement for the Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level. If paired with Child Development Lead Teacher, the certificate holder can be employed as a Lead Preschool Teacher or Mentor Teacher.

Completion of this certificate will allow students to pursue career opportunities as holter monitor technicians, ECG technicians, monitor (telemetry) technicians, pacemaker technicians, and stress testing technicians.

The Drone Videography Certificate of Achievement program is a Career Technical Ed specialty, designed for the student who has completed the Basic Drone Imaging Skills Certificate of Achievement and is interested in building skills to an intermediate level in the field of Drone imaging with an emphasis on the use of drones in the video industry. It has been designed to prepare students for employment as a UAS image capture specialist with FAA Part 107 Pilot license certification. Students will be able to design and execute drone projects utilizing principles of visual communication and video editing for employment in the field of Drone Imaging. Students will be able to deploy and pilot UAS while capturing appropriate imagery for a variety of industries. Students will be prepared for entry-level positions as drone videographers.

It has been designed to prepare students for employment as a UAS image capture specialist with FAA Part 107 Pilot license certification. Students will be building knowledge and experience in the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems and business practices, to prepare for careers in photography, videography, and post-production editing. Required Pre-Requisites: Basic Drone Imaging Skills Certificate of Achievement.

The Digital SLR Photography and Videography Certificate program is a Career Technical Ed specialty, designed for the student who wants a concentrated course of study in the field of photography coupled with video production. It has been designed to prepare students for entry-level employment as both a photographer and videographer well as photo retoucher, producer, production assistant, content creator, entrepreneur, photo researcher, photo editor and visual communicator. . Students will be educated in the use of DSLR cameras, storytelling, event documentation, lighting, sound, postproduction and business practices. The first 19 units give the student a strong foundation, while the 6 elective units allow students to “customize” the certificate to their unique needs. Designed to prepare students for entry-level employment as both a photographer and videographer as well as photo retoucher, producer, production assistant, content creator, entrepreneur, photo researcher, photo editor and visual communicator.
